Will glass eyes melt my doll's face?

I love Masterpiece eyes. I Use them whenever possible, but they are made of a hard silicone that is slightly squishy and I am afraid they might melt the faces off of my TPE dolls. Thoughts? Anyone use them?

The doll eyes are 32mm. Where can I find good eyes that size?

Hey Romulus,

I don't think using silicone eyes is the best idea with TPE dolls.
Some silicones don't seem to be a problem (like the Permatex flowable) but you never know.

I have an eye system specifically made for the TPE dolls if you want to take a look...

I can't say I have had experience with this either, but I do know as a rule of thumb to avoid silicone and TPE together. That's the general consensus. You could always house the eyes in glass or clear plastic if you have the option. Could even ask the manufacturer if they have an option to cater to your needs?

I wouldn't risk it. Better to go with acrylic eyes. Also, 32mm may be a hard find at other places.

I agree to be careful or probably not risk it, however, since you seem to have some of these eyes for other dolls already I would give it a careful try by placing them together in a location that does not hurt either too much and observe.
So you could place the back of an eye against the inner underside material of an upside down head.
Apart from that, acrylic and real glass eyes are options, as is Mannequin Fans excellent system.

Kind regards.

Good looking eyes, MannequinFan. I have seen mention of them in other threads, but could not find them. Hate to ask, but how much?

TTNLBTPD, I ordered a pair from tech-optics. Will see how that works out. They sure look good in the pictures. May have to cut them in half though. :/

mi6c, The way I mount the Masterpiece eyes in a manikin or vinyl head is rather permanent and I don't have any spares at the moment to try your suggestion. It is a worthy experiment though and maybe some time I will try it out.

Found some cheap eyes on eBay. They don't look great, but the price is low so ordered some to try out.

While looking I also found some prosthetic eyes that can be custom made to any fit. Way more than I want to pay though.

32mm is rather large for an eye. If 28mm will look OK then there are a lot more options. Right now it's wait and see.

Found WM Doll eyes on Aliexpress. $25 with shipping.

Went ahead and ordered a pair from Masterpiece. I have a chunk of TPE from WM, so once the eyes get here the experiment will begin!

On the left is original 32mm doll eye. WM I believe, Then eBay 30mm eyes for $6.99 and 4PCS brown and green for 3.26.
Clearly the original is the best looking. The dark brown is not terrible. The others may be good for cosplay.

The Masterpiece Eyes are finished and should be here in a few days.

After 24 hrs there is a slight indent in the TPE

This is doll TPE, but softer than the norm.
It is quite oily too because it was wrapped up.

Just what is expected here?
A shift in the time space continuum?
How long will that take?

You could ask the doll's manufacturer.

UPDATE!
After a week of sitting on a block of TPE with no discernible ill effects, I have installed the Masterpiece silicone glass eyes into an actual doll. They look great and don't slide around like the stock eyes do. I will be keeping an "eye" out for any problems, but so far it looks real promising.

The Tech-Optics eyes have arrived and they look really good. Like I expected though, they will need modification in order to work in a TPE doll. Besides being a complete sphere there is a metal knob on the back. Being suitable for some applications as is, I am reluctant to cut them until I know how I will use them.

Any chance you can give us an update on the Masterpiece eyes Romulus?
Curious if you used the eyes long term in your TPE lady and if any ill effects occurred.
