Dear community members,

I would like to introduce you the new TPE repair kit "comfort".
With the focus on smoothing and finishing process the whole kit became more comfortable.
Therefore I added
- solvent "Smoother" (soft solvent mixture for easy smoothing all kinds of repairs)
- solvent "Finsiher" (a "breath", bringing back the original matt effect of the TPE surface)
- white oil (pure mineral oil with very low viscosity (15mPas) for refreshing and saturation of the repair)

Content of the TPE repair kit "comfort":

15 ml / 0.5 oz TPE paste in medium consistency in air-tight brown bottle
10 ml / 0.33 oz solvent "Preparer"" in air-tight bottle with brush
10 ml / 0.33 oz solvent "Smoother" in air-tight bottle with brush
10 ml / 0.33 oz solvent "Finisher" in air-tight bottle with brush
10 ml / 0.33 oz white oil in air-tight bottle with brush
5 g shredded TPE material in solvent-resistant small can
Solvent resistant small can for mixing the TPE paste in different consistency
Toothpicks for mixing the TPE paste
5 ml syringe for low viscosity TPE paste
Blunt 8 cm cannula, diameter 2 mm, for low viscosity TPE paste
20 ml syringe for medium and thick liquid TPE paste
10 cm infusion hose for medium and thick liquid TPE paste
TPE piece as test material

TPE paste and solvent "Preparer":

Please note!
The TPE paste is not a TPE adhesive!
The solvent "Preparer" is not a TPE adhesive!

Both are representing a 2-component application.
Solvent "Preparer" is used as
- thinner for the TPE paste to produce a thin-liquid and sprayable TPE paste
- primer for preparation by gently roughening and softening of the TPE material for subsequent application of the TPE paste

TPE paste and solvent "Preparer" are not including TPE structure dissolving (and destroying) aromatic hydrocarbons like xylene, toluene or styrene.
The solvent mixture I'm using makes TPE material fluent.

Application of the TPE paste:

Mix the TPE paste in the desired viscosity.
The paste comes with a medium viscosity inside the amber glass bottle.
- add solvent "Preparer" + TPE paste inside the mixing vessel = thin TPE paste
- add TPE paste + shredded TPE material inside the mixing vessel = thick TPE jelly

Prepare the area with the solvent "Preparer" to make the surface uniformly roughened and slightly softened.

or seal a large open air bubble in depth with thick TPE jelly and close it afterwards with medium TPE paste.

Smoothing:

That is the most important aspect of the whole repair.
Use the solvent "Smoother" to do this.
Just see how precise you are able to work with "Smoother".

Matting:

Use the solvent "Finisher" and give a "breath" on top of the repair...and the matt effect comes back.
See it on the left side within the pictures how "Finisher" does its work.

White oil:

It is expensive white oil (pure mineral oil) with a very low viscosity of 15mPas. (miliPascalseconds).
There is no thinner mineral oil.
We need it for refreshing and saturation of the repair.
Just one application with that white oil is bringing an unbelievable saturation.

Wow very impressive. I hope you guys work with someone to bring this product to USA/Canada too!

(AFAIK, canada is very pesky about accepting liquids/etc from overseas, but local transport is OK?)

Great topic....interesting that you fill the wound site...I genrally apply the TPE glue with the doll in a position where the wound closes to its naturally closed position, then apply tpe glue after spreading the wound open, then instantly let the wound reclose so the tpe glue can get an instant good sealed bond, then carefully wipe off any surface seepage as part of the smoothing and finishing process. I then let it cure for a week before moving. So far this has been successful...but then again...have not run any marathons with my repaired gals yet either. :?

I can see the logic of your technique as adding a filler to fill the wound site when the area is in an allready stressed/stretched position. This would mean there would not be the same stress point on the tpe repair site when the doll flesh is stressed and stretched again and would reduce potential for failure of the repair when stress loaded again. It is esential to get the filler mix spot on though as the wrong blend has potential to further disolve and crater a wound site too...so I generally a minimalistic and very gradual with these repairs.

I also like the smoothing and finishing processes too...well done  !

And faboulous that there is a multiple step by step full kit and how to guide (very thorough..and again well down)...as TPE repairs have been the bogey man of many doll owners. 8O

Thanks for sharing. 8)

This one looks like TPE glue might work or should he use something different since the knee is a high stress area?
Again, thank you for all you do for the doll community. The BCD family truly appreciates you.

Myself, I would go for a TPE Paste fill solution. Possible three layers with kneading required. This joint area I would consider as a stress area, more than a high stress load bearing area (unless the doll constantly is stored in the splitz position).

After correct prep ensuring the repair site is clean, free of contaminent and dry, I would do the repair with the doll postured such that the defect site was 3/4s of the way fully open. I would then run tpe paste filler layers, keeping the doll in the same posture, with an gentle knead(pinching) of the wound back together in between layers to ensure full bond contact area is achieved and any air bubbles or pockets are squeezed out.

I would finish filling perhaps 0.5 MM proud of the top doll flesh surface. This gives some extra forgiveness material when smoothing the repair. Once smoothed then look at matting and oiling. The comfort kit appears to have everything that is needed and indeed some more widgets to make the job even easier for the less precise doll technician

The repair and doll must remain in the same position until the intial filling has bonded. 24 hours is generally ample, but I would wait longer for deeper and larger reapirs.

Once set, the doll can be placed back into legs closed postion, and any repair bulging can be blended and smoothed in. Avoid smoothing back to fully flush with the rest of the surface, otherwise the repair will be concave when legs open.

Now this technique, should generate sufficient TPE flexibility to ensure the repair has simmilar properties as shown in the test repair piece stretch test shown in the instruction guide.

Simply using TPE Glue, with the legs closed will not work here, because as a soon as the legs are opened, the rupture will re-open as their is insufficient bond strength in TPE glue for this type of application.

Happy to here other thoughts, but this is what I have discovered doing TPE rupture repairs.

Both shown damages can be repaired with the TPE repair kit "comfort".

The repair next to the vagina (picture from forum user itvman) can be repaired exactly in the way how forum member Anung Un Rama described it.

The repair at the knee is very simple.

@ Anung Un Rama:

Thank you very much for your assistance for the TPE repair kit "comfort".
Your describtion is perfect.

But I have to tell you the truth and what happens to me while people are asking me for the TPE repair kit.

1.) Too expensive:

Well, what shall I say ?
All the material is costing me 33 Euros with 19% VAT.
It takes me 3 hours to make the kit ready.
Washing, cutting and desinfection of the TPE material, shredding afterwards.
Mixing the TPE paste and filling the glass bottles with the solvent mixtures while wearing a complete overall, gloves and mask.
Printouts, cutting, labelling.
Cutting the sharp edge of the canulla and smoothen it afterwards, washing and desinfection.

And complete email support during the repair.

Yes, the kit is too expensive...not for the customer...it is too expensive for me.

Oh, and did I mention that it took me half a year to develop the kit and the solvent mixtures for it ?
And how about the costs for having a lab with waste air cabine ?
And how about the costs for recycling waste chemicals ?

2.) Too complicate:

"I'm not a chemist, I do not know how to...."
Well, what shall I say ?
I'm the chemist and I made everything ready. Just use it.
Prepare the damage, fill in the paste, smoothen and matting. Some oil afterwards.
Yes, that is complicate.
Old fashion pancakes are more complicated.
And why did I provide a manual with 24 pages explaining everything ?
Oh, yes, manuals are there for not reading it, I forgot.

The correct reason is that the doll owners are in panic.
That's why they are talking about "injuries".
There is no blood and no guts are comming out.
It is a simple cut inside of synthetics that needs to be repaired.

3.) Shipping takes too long:

"2 weeks, what, that is too long."
Ok, if you are not able to be patient, then you are not patient enough to do the repair.
2 weeks later...new PM...more worst pictures of a self made repair...
"Now I need the repair kit...ASAP"
"Sorry, but that cannot be repaired anymore"
> Insults against me.

At the moment I'm asking myself why I'm doing such a stress to myself.
These problems are only inside TDF.
There are no problems with customers in Europe and in Germany.

Indigo, your work with this product is highly appreciated, and educated owner application (as in read the instruction manual) of the product is certainly far less expensive than doll replacement.

This is the only holistic complete repair for TPE products that I have found ATM, and when my stockpile of repair compounds is exhausted, I will have no problem getting one of these kits to add to the dollsmith's repair and restoration tool kit (or doll doctors medical bag as samara would say  ).

Keep up the good work as your product offers even the less talented technician with an effective repair option, that saves that hard decision regarding doll retirement.

Thanks again, Anung :D

Is this kit 'universal'? Can it be used on every kind of TPE?

*edit: looks like it works on WM TPE ... how to order? Couldn't find a way to put it in shopingbasket on website.

Thanks for the tutorials. I'm going to order this kit, it seems much better than just gluing it like WM told me to do.
