Not for just projecting over what you're seeing. But if you're going to use it in conjunction with a doll, it needs to be something that the 'lens can track easily in order to project the 3D image over it accurately.

This is based on Kinect 2.0. It still sucks, but it's way better than it used to be. Also don't forget that people have hacked the holy fuck out of Kinect and some of the open source stuff works better than the proprietary drivers. Hell, Leap motion sucked when it first came out but now everyone is fun tacking it to the front of their Oculus Rift. So I expect the software to get better after launch. At least for a month or two.

Having said that, if Microsoft doesn't get it right then someone else definitely will. Better yet, if the software for placing animated models over plain dolls was free and open source. We're going to have to wait for the hardware to get into our hands first. Unless somebody here want's to fuck around with the Google Cardboard SDK.

I would imagine it would be amazing if you had a Gear Vr headset on , since its portable with no wires, and a lightweight foam or slightly silicone skinned doll. The problem with Vr is that your blown away at first, and then the alarms go off in your head when you cant touch anything. Its very frustrating and kinda makes your put your headset down

Hands-On with Google Cardboard Virtual Reality Kit you might need a app that will make a video player play a side by side veiw ( i know they have some things with a slight moved copy of a movie to create 3d images .

No VR hardware company worth their salt is going to build a product that uses a tablet. They are too big and too heavy. Most of the cheap $20-range phone-based viewers are junk anyway because the optics are bad, the tracking latency is too high, and the software support is minimal. It might give you a taste but it probably won't taste good. Currently the best you can do is Samsung Gear VR but that is $100 plus the cost of a high end 2015 Samsung phone if you don't have one already.

I work for a community driven VR porn company called MetaverseXXX.com. We know that some people may use their dolls to enhance their porn viewing experience. Is there anything that we can do that would make this easier? Do you have any suggestions on what we could shoot?

I know of a gaming group that usually plays 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. They decided to try something else & give this technology a shot; however, all but 2 of the users had issues getting their rigs to work properly. The main problem appears that the technology needs to be easier to use for those with lesser tech skill.

Hard to say, beyond the basics like keeping the camera stationary so you don't make the viewer nauseous. I like that you have done POV from the girl's perspective! That is rare! I will have to try out your offerings later.

It sounds like you are talking about VR with PCs, which means they were using development kits and relatively unpolished software. I sure hope the technology has been made easier to use, because the first consumer-oriented VR headsets for PCs are scheduled to begin shipping at the end of the month.

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone which came with a free gear VR headset. So I tried some free VR porn trailers!

I'll start with metaversexxx.com. I downloaded two trailer/preview videos (then extracted them, as they came in .zip files) and loaded them in Samsung's MilkVR app as instructed on the metaversexxx website. Unfortunately, the video comes up with you seeing double because the default rendering mode in MilkVR isn't correct for the metaversexxx videos. This isn't mentioned in the instructions (probably for an older version of MilkVR). MilkVR has a lot of rendering modes for different 3D video formats, and one or two of them work okay but I am not sure which (if any) is the correct option to use here. This whole experience needs a lot of polish.

I also tried some free trailers from virtualrealporn.com. They have their own player app for GearVR, but I think it wasn't yet compatible with the new phone model. Most of the videos I tried to play had one eye offset vertically, making them unwatchable. When I tried the same videos in MilkVR, they worked right away and without any fiddling with the rendering mode. This was a better experience, but still far from perfect. I like their subscription pricing model better too. I don't want to spend money on a video that I might not like. With a subscription model, you can sample anything and everything without feeling like you just lost at the slot machine.

In no situation did the scale of the world seem correct with videos from either content provider. This is no surprise to me, for some very complex reasons. Suffice it to say it is nearly impossible to get the scale right for everyone with pre-recorded 3D video, especially if you encourage head movement. GearVR isn't helping either. It never even asked me for my interpupillary distance.

Imagine attaching sensors on the feet, shins, thighs, waist, neck, head, upper arms, forearms, hands - to your doll - and having an Oculus Sex Game showing a fully animated, realistic version of your doll. It could talk to you, moan, be very realistic and the doll would be what you feel and held onto... if you move your doll around, the virtual version would move exactly 1:1 with it. The game could just be a bedroom and you could use this experience in your own bedroom. The tracking on the headset and on the doll would be enough to let your doll come to live in 3D.

Doll companies could create a super cheap, non-silicone material doll, that has joints and such and places to put the trackers... maybe silicone insert for the vagina/ass, maybe for breasts, mouth insert, etc - just where it matters... but the rest of the material wouldnt matter so much since you would not be visualizing it - as you would be visualizing the 3D version of it. You'd just need something that feels nice and is cheap to manufacture.

I think this will be a huge opportunity for doll companies, in fact if no one gets into it before I do, I'll do it myself at some point.

All that's necessary is a set of real-time positional trackers (there's a few companies making these already), the actual cheap doll used soley for VR, a Unity or Unreal game using an API to receive the tracker data to rig to a "3d model skeleton", and a nice set of 3D models to choose from.

There could be multiple "dolls" sold, a shorter one, average sized one, amazon lady sized one... and various widths and shapes... at first the company making these would want to keep it basic though as the 3D Models would have to be 1:1 scale to each doll... so you could only use a 3D Model made for the "Average Size" doll else you would lose the feeling of "presence" and it would break immersion.

I think there is something here... doll manufacturers could spring up who don't even have to pour silicone anymore. Just have to make basic dolls with some sort of material that has realistic moving joints.

OR maybe people could just create full on silicone dolls and rig them up with trackers somehow to get the full experience - creating a 3D version of every doll to come alive in VR.

Although I do like the cheaper idea better as it opens up the doll market to more people.

Such things are coming, no doubt. I'd look toward Japan for developments in this area, as their culture is more accepting of this sort of thing (which is funny since they censor their porn).

I wouldn't pay much attention to little motorized or motion-tracked masturbation toys that attempt to sync with porn. I've tried things like that in the past and they weren't worth the cardboard they were packaged in.

If you ask me there is far more potential in real-time rendered sex simulations. Affordable position tracking technology is reaching the point now where latency is practically imperceptible and precision is sub-millimeter. This could track your movements relative to a doll or other sex toy, while a virtual reality headset provides the audio and visuals to convince you that you are having sex with a real person and not just an object. I don't expect a really high quality commercial product right away as there are still a few challenges to overcome, but in ten years we may all be taking it for granted.
