Why I put this here....
Idollator is not defined in any recognized dictionary. The closest term we have is the verb Idolize:
Actually there is one even closer...Quick definitions (idolize)
▸ verb: love unquestioningly and uncritically or to excess; venerate as an idol
The following is an excerpt from another thread I posted in...Quick definitions (idolater)
▸ noun: a person who worships idols
So given the above do you feel that the term iDollator accurately describes YOU?Given the closeness of the two words it is understandable why using the word Idollators to describe our doll community in general, tends towards misleading outsiders to our community that we Idolize our dolls, which most of us do not. The term "Idollator" implies extremes.
Therefore, given further consideration, I now take the stand, that based on the above argument, that the majority of doll owners are not iDollators, and that "iDollators" as the term has been represented, form only a small minority of our doll owners community.
Most people form their opinions of doll owners based on media representation. Therefore if only owners with extreme viewpoints have appeared in the media to date, and often the same faces, then that is how people will perceive our community as a whole. Therefore, if the most prominent doll owner seen in the media presents himself as an iDollator, then people will eventually define the term in his image - especially if the academically arrived at interpretation of the word and the media representation support each other..
The above indicates that iDollators form just some of the community.Salon Media Group, Inc. Again these all tend to push the definition of iDollator to the extreme.October 14, 2007|By Violet Blue wrote:She projects herself as a fellow "iDollator" (the current online terminology), a person who sees her doll as both a sex toy and a companion with which she has a human relationship." "Ryan Gosling as Lars with his doll girlfriend. If the character were a real person, he might be called an "iDollator." "The most well-known Internet iDollator personality is Davecat"
Again this pushes the relationship definition. The media has taken its lead from the interviewees. To have the public accept this a a general name for doll owners woudl be like paddling against the current. Far better to accept the term as the outside world has accepted.Nov 25, 07 | Fake Intimacy (Part IV)- iDollators wrote:...what we’ve deemed “fake intimacy.” The latest term to refer to someone in a romantic relationships with a love doll is an “iDollator.
Please post what you feel the term iDollator invokes in yourself or in others? Would you want to be labeled as iDollator or something less extreme sounding?
Based on usage to date, especially media and public perception I would define idollator as:
MidimanOne who prefers a love doll over a normal human relationship.
