Interesting photo. Wow, I never knew how much the motorized option took away from the articulation. You really loose a lot of movement options by the look of it. It's a complete different torso to the EV. So glad now that I didn't go for this on my main doll and just went for the auto sucking (which I actually find disappointing if I'm honest).

Nothing against the Chinese, but in my experience they have very unreliable QC and the materials they use often are suspect in nature. Perfect example I ordered 100k units that needed to have a certain tolerance to ensure water tightness of the holes. Over 70% or more were completely unusable and had to be sent back causing a 4 month lead time delay. I would gladly pay more for a US company that had comparable products unfortunately most US/EU doll makers are garbage.

Did you happen to pose her legs by holding at the shins and pushing both legs at the same time, using her back as support?

Apparently(from reading other posts here) this is not a good thing to do. Puts a lot of stress on that hip joint.

Anyways, I'm in the process of looking for a new one, and I'm seriously considering a robotic hip(irontech). OR simply a smaller doll. Decisions, decisions..

I had her down on her knees, used one hand at her lower back and my other at the upper chest. Then the disturbing muffled pop followed by the upper body flopping backwards

I’m still not sure if I’ll go with the hip motor. Looking at the skeleton posted earlier, I don’t see any joints allowing for arching of the back unfortunately

Just an update

Matthew at Irontech spoke with the factory and a replacement doll has been offered. Just working out the details.

With that information, I decided to cut into my doll and investigate the break. Turns out I was wrong about the location of said break. The spine is still in tact at the top of the hips weld. Now that I was able to wrap a finger around the spine, I moved the hips to track just where the spine broke. Evidently it’s higher up, past a block in the upper middle back. My guess it has detached from the oral motion motor and the grinding from the video I posted is the spine rubbing on the motor when the waist is moved.

That’s certainly an area I’m less familiar with and possibly an even more difficult spot to even try to repair as it feels like it’s up inside a robot rib cage.

But the good news is the doll will be replaced. The factory wishes to send the new doll by sea and this time, without the oral function. I’m offering to pay the cost of the air shipment and installation of the oral motion. I hope they agree, at least for the air shipment at most.

I learned a lesson though. Don’t arch the back of a doll with a motor in the chest. Or at least, not in the method I used before.

I didn’t cut enough to see a lot. Just enough to get a finger or 2 to feel around and see if I can even repair where I thought the break was.

The weld is sealed and protected by the foam. The ultra soft silicone is sealed to the spine. If the break is where I presumed it was, I definitely would have cut into it more, since it isn’t, I didn’t want to create a huge hole so that sealing it up will be smooth.

Though this doll is more difficult to move from closer to bed and back due to the instability, I can still make use of it while waiting for the replacement. I don’t want to ruin this doll until the replacement arrives. Even still, the break allows for easier arching when it comes to spooning in bed!

Sounds like a plan. I wonder what you plan on doing with the old one when your new one arrives. I have thrown entire dolls in the bin before after chopping them up piece by piece and getting rid of slowly. It's a shame but not something you can exactly sell on FB marketplace

I won’t know until the replacement arrives. Might keep it for a while, might tear it down and toss it. Perhaps maybe just send the motor back to the factory if I can clear off the silicone. It’s still brand new and in tact. Unfortunately with the spine detached, it’s limited to laying down oral only.

As I had guessed. Irontech is a large, high-end company and they have a reputation to maintain.
They lived up to it.
Now that it's done, it's good to let people know, to reward the quality of their aftersales service, and also to encourage all manufacturers to commit to a quality approach. This will lead to a more mature and reliable doll market which will benefit all doll lovers.

Just an update. The latest email from Irontech requests that I share video of the breakdown of the doll. So if it were to be sold, it will have to be sold as disassembled.
