I've always been interested in expressions.
Teeth are a great way to change the face, eyebrows and eye positioning are also.
These are some eyebrows I made from a type of cloth with a water-based glue.
And one day She will be able to smile...
Lol, that is actually quite a good idea
Interesting idea indeed!

Here's a few of Ami...
She has a neutral expression normally, so she can be persuaded to do a few more.
She also has a set of mannequin fans eyes and a set of doll laboratory teeth. Well worth getting.😊👍

Personally, I'm a fan of FaceApp because it helps a lot with the character development process.
But that doesn't help all the other people who see these photos, because they want to know what they will eventually buy and not how someone else imagines their doll.
That's why I always try to keep my threads balanced. Here are a few examples of how dolls can show emotions without FaceApp or other manipulation.

Arthur1960 wrote: Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:34 am Earlier this year I got hold of a set of teeth and tongues from The Doll Laboratory and was quite impressed with the different facial expressions I could achieve with Suki here. While they tend to work best with heads that don't have any teeth it's possible to use them with those that do although you may need to trim the existing 'teeth' for best results. Still the set can be a nice alternative to software like FaceApp.
Based on your recommendation, I did check out The Doll Laboratory and now my Isabella has her latest addition, a new teeth insert by TDL - it makes such a difference. I appreciate your tip in directing me there so very much!

May I humbly submit my Rozanne for consideration- no ROS, no fancy faceapp- what you see is what she’s got.

What skin tone is the one you bought? Trying to find out cause I'd like to buy one that looks the same. Also, nice photos!

I'm famous - or maybe infamous - for getting the AI expressions out of Amber and her gang.

But I didn't need AI for this one.

And you can imagine what brought it on.

Yup! That’s the one! This one is in light tan with implanted hair and matte facial finish. I highly recommend Starpery- they’ve got incredible western faces with details that make you think they’re real. Plus, their products look like their promo photos, so what you see is what you get.

FYI- I got mine from Silicone Lovers- Nick is a great resource and helped me choose this as my first doll exactly one year ago.

It's surprising I only discovered this thread today, because it involves my favorite subject: my Geniece's built-in smile. We don't begrudge people who use FaceApp, but we are happy that we have no need for it, except maybe to see what she would have looked like without the smile. The "camera" is a 2018 Huawei phone, lighting is provided by nature, the only adjustment possible, is that the room has 3 black curtains on one rail, so there can be 4 vertical slits of indirect natural light that can be adjusted in potentially infinite widths and positions. Apologies if some pictures are a bit grainy, due to insufficient light. We use Irfanview for resizing, cropping and the occasional sharpening or adjustment of brightness, but that is as far as editing goes.
So, directly to my string of pictures.
The face I fell in love with, SY head 178, normally sold with a 158D body, website picture:

What she looked like a day after she arrived. Overzealous factory application of bright pink lip color, but I knew it would fade, I regularly redo it with food color powder in a drop of oil, in a paler pink, that looks more natural to me. I have never reproduced the website picture exactly, but just the fact that it is a similar wig and not the identical one, already is one factor. Make-up, eyelashes, color of lighting, etc..who cares, it's obviously the same face.

One of our early successes that I was very pleased with. I swear she is asking: Do you want to play?

Profile view, one of my favorite angles too. I have no experience with FaceApp, I wonder if it can even do a convincing smile at an acute angle? First picture with her new, wild curls, the factory wig is now a back-up.
IMG_20230524crop.jpg

The next two are crops (to keep your attention on the subject under discussion) of her wearing a pair of long boots and nothing else, so at first she is wondering if I like what I see, but as the camera goes lower, it turns to serious doubt if the whole series is still such a good idea. Hand/finger posing adds another dimension to expressions. I really like the last one.
