Interchangeable heads between brands

Are there any brands whose heads will fit other brands? What I mean is, if I bought say an Irontech doll but didn't like the head could I fit the head from a Quita or WM doll on it?

If so is there a list anywhere of which heads can fit which brands?

Here is what I have been advised before:
Many of the different doll brands use the M16 bolt or quick snap connector to attach, so in theory, this can be achieved.
The downside is this:
Not all heads and neck sizes are the same, so while it may fit as far as the connection point is concerned, the head or neck may not be size compatible ( I speak from experience), and the skin tone may not be the same.
