"Well, thanks. So there's a roast in the oven and it'll be done in a half-hour. I have all the clothes ready to go to the dry cleaner tomorrow and I'll do that. The dog has been walked and fed. I washed and folded the laundry. I vacuumed and I cleaned all the bathrooms. Then I took a shower and I've been making myself pretty for you. It's a lot."

Dinner was great, and there were leftovers, which Amber thought was excellent.

"That means I can squeeze another couple of meals out of this," she said. "Good home economics."

"Well done, Amber!"

"Yeah. And now, I am getting off my feet."

I'm impressed with how many photos you manage to prepare, take, edit and assemble into a story in such a short time!

Sadly, we're going to be taking a hiatus for the next few days (or longer).

Amber broke her back last night trying to straighten back up from posing on the bed. So it looks like I have a few days' worth of research to do and then this weekend we're going to have to attempt surgery on her.

Anybody with some expertise or experience in doing back surgery on dolls is welcome to offer any help you'd like. I'm not even sure what kind of job I'm looking at here.

Yep, this is why I very seldom adjust poses aside from bed use (or on the extra unused doll, a few times a month).

It probably broke at the little rod that connects the upper and lower half of the doll, in the upper back. A lot of leverage and stress goes through that rod whenever the doll back is used as a surface to act upon (raising legs especially). It eventually breaks after fatigue.

You will need an exact-o knife (razor, not scissors), some acetone to dissolve the foam (drops to dissolve a little at a time and finger to scoop it out), a stick welder to weld the broken rod, a sprayer with water to control any burning foam, a cotton balls or similar to fill in any removed foam, a desiccant packet (if water was used) and sil poxy to close it back after leaving it open for a few days if you used water (in addition to letting the air pump shoot into it). Probably would loosen the back bolt as well if its tight while in there.

Oh! Bad news!
A repair seems to require great DIY skills and some adapted tools.

YungSynth had a similar problem with Ji Yeon (165 cm) and he changed her body.
For dressed poses, an external support with a plate in the back held by bandages could perhaps be a temporary solution especially for standing poses?

An update - Amber's going to be getting a replacement body, thanks to the nice folks at Zelex - there was a problem with how her backbone was welded to her hip crossbar, and that resulted in the two breaking off from each other.

So I have her on doll painkillers and she's resting as comfortably as possible for the next several days waiting on a body transplant. She wanted me to pass along her love to all of her fans.

All manufactured products can and do fail. Being in the business of supporting after sale big ticket products for most of my life, I know what sets successful manufacturers apart from the losers. Looks like Zelex is owning up to their responsibility to restore trust in their product.Hopefully the replacement will be good. All the best!

THE INJURY

I heard the crack as Amber was taking off her dress, and I had to help her get dressed for bed. I could tell she was uncomfortable, and so when she said she didn't feel so good and just wanted to go to sleep I didn't object.

The real problem was the next morning. I looked over and saw that she was crying.

"Amber, what's wrong?"

"I don't want to panic, but I can't move my legs. In fact, I'm numb down there."

"Yeah, I think I broke my back last night."

"Wow. That would not be good. Does it hurt?"

"It aches, yeah. My lower back, just above my hips. But it's a dull ache. I dunno. I just feel sick."

So I moved her around a little, and I could hear some knocking in that area - not to mention Amber, who was toughing it out as best as she could, sucking air through her clenched teeth. And she was very floppy where normally her back was ramrod straight.

"I knew it. I knew I shouldn't have arched my back. So STUPID! What happens to me now?"

"What happens now is one of two things. Either I figure out a way to reattach your spine to your hip bone, which I'm not gonna lie is going to be a major pain in the ass, or..."

"That means cutting me open even more, right? And pulling all my guts out?"

"OK, yes, but that's the operation, and you can relax. We'll glue the cut back up, and we'll replace your stuffing. You'll be fine - I just need to figure out a way to make that connection stronger."

"OK, what's the other option?"

"I get you a full body transplant."

"You'd do that for me?"
