By coincidence I watched a movie that might fit this topic last night (well it fits as much as Ex Machina fits...)

Called Teleios or Beyond the Trek (*confused look*) https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/beyond_the_trek

Pretty average movie with some good ideas that are let down by budget and execution. Has an female android that has apparently been used as a companion by the last survivor of a deep space mining vessel. Doesn't delve too deeply into the man/android relationship, doesn't really delve too deep into anything really lol

Just remembered another film:

Mannequin (1987) - a mannequin designer creates a beautiful store-window mannequin that comes to life. Comedy/Romance. Not great, but entertaining.

Yeah, Anung Un Rama! I was really skeptical about BSG, but it was one of few shows that hooked me- liked 'Caprica' and BSG Razor, too.

I got into dolls because I remembered the Real Doll segment on HBO's Real Sex series. I'm pretty sure that was well over 10 years ago though. (I was looking for porn of women riding their dolls, like the beginning of the segment, and found videos of dolls selling for under two grand, some under a grand (mostly knock offs, or dolls that would not be TDF approved).)

Yep, I enjoyed Lars and The Real Girl and thoroughly enjoyed BSG which I was sceptical about at first being old enough to remember the first version of the show but they did a tremendous job and like BC I was very much smitten with Boomer too! The show that actually got me looking for a life size doll was Humans, while getting a huge crush on the character of Mia (Gemma Chan is soooo beautiful!) I became fixated with the idea of having a life sized synthetic lady in my house and so began my own doll journey when Sarah arrived in 2016. One film that I would really urge folk to see is Welcome to Marwen, the dolls are on a smaller scale but the movie looks in some depth at the psychology of our interactions with our dolls, how we project personalities and ideas onto them and most importantly how they can help us cope with what life throws at us. Steve Carell puts in an excellent performance and of course the movie is based on the real life experience of a gifted comic book illustrator who switched to doll photography after a particularly nasty incident.

I literally just finished watching "Romance Doll" on Netflix and had to come straight here to see if I could find mention of it as I hadn't heard of it before. Yep, it has been mentioned in this thread and I remember reading the early posts. Duh!

I wont write spoilers but I will say the Netflix description is pretty vague so the story went in directions I was not expecting. Very good movie, especially if you are a doll person (you are here so you probably are)

My question for any who have seen it, are the co-stars from Orient Industries? Most of the heads on the shelves and bodies sure looked like OI. An early shot in the movie of the cavity looked 4Woods but could have also been OI due to Japans laws on realism.

Hey, Dees Man, thanks for the tip re Romance Doll on Netflix, I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially all the details re doll manufacturing etc, definitely a movie that doll lovers will appreciate!
