Poor Mr. Hedge now has a belly ache and will miss the trick or treating.

Hey Devi, we need a few more cuts to make them bite sized, please!

P.S.: You'll have to forgive Devi for wearing the same Black Cat costume as last Halloween, but she loves it.

Groot sure looks happy Devi is there with her sword. Now Bandit can come by with her melter gun and Mr. Hedge can bring the Marshmallows and Graham Crackers.

Devi looks fantastic 8) In fact, I have been reading 'Samurai Executioner' recently, so more cool swordplay is great to see

I think Devi has mastered that feat since I still have a table!

Thanks KKFun, a beautiful lady with a big sword is a deadly combo!

Thanks Vicvic! That suit took forever to put on. It has its own dedicated body because I'm never going to want to do that again. :D

Baby Groot doesn't look so happy now that all his candies have been melted and eaten. He'll just have to wait for Thanksgiving before he gets any more tasty treats.

Thanks djcdoll! Devi agrees. I think it's going to be her permanent Halloween costume.

When I was setting up the sword cutting the chocolate truffle photo, I was thinking of River Tam's fight scene from the movie Serenity. There's so much cool imagery of sword fights to draw inspiration from.

I didn't know about Samurai Executioner, but when I looked it up, I now know the authors also wrote Lone Wolf and Cub which I believe I saw in movie form. Daigorō!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, there's so much to do and so little time. It would be really nice if all the kitchen knives were sharpened. That would really help out with the food prep.

Since I'm so terrible at sharpening knives and the girls seem to be really good at keeping their own weaponry sharp, I was hoping they could do it for me, but noooo....

However, they did take pity on me. They ordered an idiot proof knife sharpening system that should be easy enough even for me. As a plus, they are also going to teach me how to use it!

Red Sonja, our resident weapons expert, will be our teacher.

"The key to this particular knife sharpening system is the clamp. It holds the knife and controls the angle of the sharpening stones. Hey Devi, come help out!"

Devi says "Wait, we're photographing the lesson? I'm not dressed up for this!"

Red Sonja shrugs "You'll be fine, just unbutton your top and no one will notice what you're wearing..."
lesson-02.jpg
lesson-02.jpg (369.79 KiB) Viewed 568 times

Red Sonja continues "Anyway, the kit includes multiple sharpening stones at various levels of 'grit'. Like sand paper, you start with a coarse grit and work up to finer and finer grits. Because your kitchen knives are so dull, we'll need to start with the coarsest grit."
lesson-03.jpg
lesson-03.jpg (380.25 KiB) Viewed 568 times

"Each sharpening stone has a guide rod which slots through the clamp. We'll use the 20° slot because that angle is good for most kitchen knives."
lesson-04.jpg

"Push the sharpening stone up and across the length of the blade. You'll need to do this multiple times until you can feel a 'burr' along the opposite side of the edge."
lesson-05.jpg
lesson-05.jpg (387.97 KiB) Viewed 568 times

"Alrighty, we've got a burr along the entire opposite edge, so it's time to flip the clamp over and do the other side."
lesson-06.jpg

Hmm, I can't see what's going on. Let me try for a better view...

Devi says, "Now that we're done with the coarse stone, only three more to go!"

Red Sonja says, "Huh, the kit we ordered didn't come with a polishing stone. That would have been nice to polish the edge, but it should be plenty sharp by now."

Devi says, "Oh yes, it is plenty sharp!"

If I had pretty helpers like that, I would decree that all my kitchen knives need sharpening; then I would sit quietly and watch them do it!

Uhh… yeah, H6… I couldn’t see what was going on either. There was a lot of knives and apparatuses in the way of the girlies. Oh wait… there was a lesson???

Shit… I see it now. Oh, I’m gonna get cut for sure… 😜
