It seems Sanhui, like many other doll makers, will sometimes do custom makeup for studio shots. I recently ordered a new Sanhui 156 with head #17. I asked about the different makeup at the time of my order. I wound up choosing the basic version because I want to be able to alter her look myself.

I think it is the eye shapes. You can tell the mouth and nose looks identical, but when it comes to the eye shapes, it marks the differences. The factory doll has bigger rounder eyes than the stock photo.

My guess is that the eyes are free hand cut and each head can have a different look depending is doing the eyes.
