Pumpkinpatch: Spot on with sharp edges observation, metal and tpe/elastomer is not a good combo without some flexible coating between the metal and tpe/elastomer, and therein lies a challenge :)

Torx or Allen key round head male/female fasteners are the better way to go
Minimally invasive to tighten if needed
Could use wave washers and Teflon flat washers for bearing and wear
Lock tite could be used to seal fasteners

Pumpkinpatch:
I found it difficult to obtain 2mm screws in anything other than Cheese or Pan head and opted to use riveted joints as a preferred method for fingers.
That is not to say Torx or Allen head male/female fasteners don't exist in these small sizes, just have not found them yet (read that as lazy) :)

If other manufacturers want to continue using wire they should look into using different gauges of piano wire as that would keep fingers straight and flexible! If you could adapt that type of wire as the skeleton it would make a nice flexible doll

I guess the thing to do is google fasteners when you can't sleep at night Lol
If that doesn't put you to sleep well I'm fresh out of ideas!

Cost effectiveness seems to be the priority with most mass produced goods.
Every suggestion for upgrading a doll, regardless of how improbable has its place in this forum either as a working solution, something to be tweaked or something destined for the Hell No! bin.
This is a new and rapidly changing field, from high priced complex works of art to some really beautiful budget models.
Improvements on the cheap are pretty much in the hands of creative owners unafraid (mostly) of daring to rebuild their prized dolls :)

The mini's pinky looking doable although not keen on shortening the ball joint threads :)

Just saw this post on another topic
ILDoll
We use finger wires as it is safest and most durable as far as our concern.
We researched on finger bone and found the way out. But the cost of its volume production is too high

My next doll will definitely be articulated fingers, and toes. Which means it won't be for a while, not many options, and expensive :(
