Articulated fingers are the future!
dolls with finger wires in their hands have caused a lot of grief. Some manufacturers have managed to get figer wires working in a more or less usable way. Wires are not necessarily bad, if implemented properly.
But human fingers have jointed fingers. Even though wires will keep being the default for low-end to medium-range dolls, they are not state of the are anymore in the high-end segment. Striving for even more life-likeness and the utmost of realism, hinged fingers will set the new standard.
For life-sized and life-like silicone dolls, currently two manufacturers offer hinged fingers.
One is already listed on TDF. He uses plastic parts for the articulated fingers in their tall dolls with ~160 cm body height.
But development continues.
This is the hand skeleton of the other (not yet TDF-listed) manufacturer:
This is a full metal skeleton. The nuts on wrists and base of the fingers will allow maintenance. With engineering like this, there are no welded parts anymore. This is a service-friendly design.
Hinged finger skeletons like this are the future!
Stay tuned for more news from this emerging manufacturer!

Re: Articulated fingers are the future!
Wire fingers & weak hand/wrist joints has certainly been one of my major complaints. Even though I look at dolls as a somewhat "disposable consumer good" that won't last me more than a few years, I still want it to be more durable and have life-like hands & fingers.
The other thing that bothers me about the internal metal skeleton is that a lot of the skeleton parts are sharp edged and literally cut holes in the TPE body flesh from the inside out.,

Re: Articulated fingers are the future!
recently I listend to someone praying, "Oh Lord Almighty, I put my thumb into the circular saw, and it was cut right off. Why did you make me so imperfect and did not gave me titanium bones".
He was probably right. Yes, there will be always complaints.
But maybe you have overlooked what the real innovation is here… no weldes parts!
Welded parts are very hard to repair. With screws and nuts, the segments become replacable and repairable.
With this skeleton, maintenance-friendlyness does not stop at the hands…
This skeleton is serious business. You can replace every segment. Please feel free to compare with a common TPE skeleton with nuts welded onto screws and wires welded onto the hand plate…
This kind of engineering with screws and nuts is doll evolution!

Re: Articulated fingers are the future!
Wire does offer this flexibility for the life of the wire although Arthur1960 ingeniously uses metal tubing over the wire and end caps thereby reducing the risk of an unexpected stabby.
Page 8 Post subject: Re: My attempt to rescue a tpe gal destined for disposal!
At this stage the best solution (I think) is articulating with short sections of wire joined together with metal hinges.
This is from a manufacturers point of view an expensive option.
As has been pointed out by Anung, these doll bodies are made with an easily damaged material and should be handled with (loving) care
Re: Articulated fingers are the future!
Not going to ask how many hinge points (40 per hand for starters plus the 30 or so for the main skeleton) or what the projected cost would be but definitely the high end of the market
