I have felt that way about other languages, since I was a child and observed my grandmother speaking German over the phone. Quebec is for the most French-Canadian people. The native language is french but we live in an English country. That makes sense. Surely, such knowledge would render an advantage. I wonder if software like Rosetta Stone can have someone speaking another language easily and effectively.
