Re: Merkin for a Mannequin
I've never been heavy into pubic hair, but this might be a less expensive way to experiment with different looks on your girl...

You can get craft fur at stores that sell craft supplies - Hobby Lobby has a ton of this stuff in all kind of different colors and textures, and it's really cheap - about 3 bucks.
A while back I did a little experiment on Sammie with this stuff.
Using scissors I cut small pieces of fur (about 1/4" or so) and let them fall into a strip of wet skin color paint just to give her a small landing strip...

That's a nice landing strip. Has anyone tried this with a silicone doll and, if so, which paint or adhesive did you use?MannequinFan wrote: Using scissors I cut small pieces of fur (about 1/4" or so) and let them fall into a strip of wet skin color paint just to give her a small landing strip...]

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty sure the technique would work equally as well with a clear silicone adhesive instead of paint.Papa Bear wrote:That's a nice landing strip. If no one else has tried this, perhaps I'll experiment (like out of sight under the wig). Any recommendations for clear adhesive for platinum silicon? I have an unopened tube of silipoxy from Smooth-On ... is it clear?MannequinFan wrote:I haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty sure the technique would work equally as well with a clear silicone adhesive instead of paint.Papa Bear wrote:That's a nice landing strip. Re: Merkin for a Mannequin
When dried it does not allow light to pass thru it cleanly,
so it appears milky on your silicone girl. It works best for closure type wound
that require sticking things together where the glue is hidden.
If you're gonna use it to glue something to your girl, better tint it
with makeup powder to match her skintone. I mix the powder to the right
color dry, before adding it to the silicone, cause mixing it into
the glue speeds up the drying time, like a lot.
Anyway, just a tip, I love all the modifications people work out on their dolls
that's what makes them your own

Re: Merkin for a Mannequin
I seem to remember another TDF member using some flowable silicone windshield sealant as a sealer for makeup on a doll. It's crystal clear and it's much cheaper at $5/tube. At almost $30 for a 3 oz tube, you may want to hold onto your silpoxy for those important repair jobs.Papa Bear wrote:If no one else has tried this, perhaps I'll experiment (like out of sight under the wig). That's good advice from CharlieWone. Even with the clear sealant you still may need to tint it a little. You may also need to dust a little cornstarch over it to dull the shine.
One thing I was thinking about trying was to spread a thin layer of the sealant out on a piece of non-stick material like wax paper and create a little landing strip that you could then temporarily stick to a doll to see how it looks first. This way your experiments won't be permanent.
Mistakes on mannequins are easy to fix, I'd hate to make a permanent mistake in that area with an expensive silicone doll.
