Life pro tip for wobbly/free turning Jinsan heads

Post by ZannyDanger »

I'm certain most long timers are aware of this already but i wanted to post it here for all the new members to see. I've been doing this for quite some time with all my gals and it's been working great. Ive seen the suggestion thrown around a few times in the past and figured it could use it's own thread for better visibility.

If your Jinsan doll's head is a bit wobbly or turns too easily, there's an incredibly easy way to fix this. Here's what you'll need:

- A desire to give your doll a higher quality of life
- A couple 9/16 or m16 steel flat washers
- A couple rubber hose washers
- About 2 minutes of your time to install them

Image

First you'll want to put the flat washer directly on top of the m16 head connector. This will ensure that no pressure or friction can be exerted on to the skin of your sweetie's neck.

then place the hose washers on top of the flat washer. You might need to use more than one depending on the head you have. You'll get a feel for it when trying it. The desired result is having a head that can be turned easily but that can hold its pose without problem. This also elliminates the annoying wobble that can occur when the head isn't completely screwed down.

Image

Lastly, screw the head down. You'll notice when the rubber washers start compressing that the head becomes more secure. You don't want to make it too tight, so as long as the head doesn't turn freely and doesn't wobble anymore, you should be all set. You can play with different amounts of steel/rubber washers to obtain your ideal amount of stiffness when the head is centered. I used the hanging tool for the sake of this example.

The reason i used two different rubber washers here is because the bottom one will expand as it gets compressed by the top black one, making for a more gradual tightness adjustment as seen in the picture below.

You're all set... enjoy!!

Absolutely genius!!

My ladies right hip is creaky stiff :) been that way since her "limo driver" dropped her off. (Jan 4/18) may loosen up with light aerobics, not hard core yoga :)

Thank you for the tip!!

Thanks for the tip, Zanny! I think I have a few of those bits in the workshop so will try them later. Lynne has a habit of wanting to look away from me at times, I thought she was just a little shy.

Running to the local hardware store now to pick up some washers and get this done for my girl. Sometime in the future, I'd like to get a magnetic connector to make head removal easier for clothing changes. I've seen a few around, any recommendations?
