Safest way to remove factory eyelashes for TPE dolls?

Post by MannequinFan »

I'm curious as to what the safest and best way is to remove the factory eyelashes from a TPE doll.
For those that are using the eyelash holders that I'm making this would be good to know.
I'm not sure what adhesive is used by the factories. Super glue?

I've used acetone on my older TPE head but I'm not sure if this is the best or safest way to loosen the adhesive. Would mineral oil/spirits work for this?
Anyone else have experience with what works best?

Thanks in advance,
MF

I came here doing search for your eyelashes, found this under different repair post, hope it helps.

Samara,
What process would you suggest to remove eyelashes from a TPE doll?
When people get MF eyelids for a doll already made, this is a vital step.

Hi there Nyoko. I like to apply some rubbing alcohol soaked into a pad place
just above and on the eyelash let set for a bit then look for a loose end.
You can then apply some baby oil and gently lift the eyelash with a tweezer
repeat ech step as needed. Do not rush to avoid damaging your doll.

.......and putting them back?

I use rtv 4500 silicone in a little tube. It is called sil-bond
I clean the area where the eyelashes would go with 50% iso rubbing alcohol,
clean the edge of the lash with acetoneb wait 15 minutes apply silicone to
the eyelid with a toothpick wipe of said toothpick and gently press the eyelash
in place. Have the eyes installed for this bit

Perfect! I used the standard eyelash glue, and it started failing in just a couple days. The silbond will be pretty permanent wont it Samara? Just worry about removing and replacing again. You are using stuff that worried me a bit around TPE, the acetone and Iso alc. sounds like if I am careful, it can be use gently. Thanks for the trade secret!
It is okay to feed the bear! In fact, it is highly recommended! Just be sure to count your fingers afterword.
