Scars on TPE Feet

Post by Erith »

After two attempts of standing Erith on a soft rug (I now realize the WM factory used a foam to hold her up while assisting her) she has some nasty scars on her feet. I was told by a few people to try the TPE repair glue or to try the soldering iron. i'm leaning more towards the glue as the tears aren't that wide, but two of the scars on the bottom of her feet are somewhat deep. Looking for some advice. Also if I didn't categorize this properly in a specific section of the forum, I apologize in advance.

Hi, I wouldn't use the tpe solvent (it's not an actual glue) as it could make these worse in untrained hands. Personally I would use heat to repair these cuts and you best bet is a hot air rework station. You can pick them up for around £28 on eBay and Amazon or you can get a heat gun even cheaper but then the heat isn't so easy to control. If you search for Mishka's very helpful repair video it should be of assistance.

Obviously your doll doesn't have the standing foot option so standing her for any length of time will cause the skeleton to press down on the tpe and cause damage.

It looks like your doll doesn't have standing feet, I don't see the screw heads that standing dolls have... This is why you cracked the tpe by standing her I guess. Repairing is tricky and you could damage her even more if you don't know what are you doing :(

Unless you have access to a Hot Air Rework Station, don't do anything. Leave it alone, you will just make it worse.

Don't try and stand your doll again. It is not made to do so.

Solvents are for minor cuts. It'd not work in your case. Guaranteed!
Hot air, and reflow the TPE.
It takes time to learn.

I too did stand my doll in storage for about a week. She's not a standing doll. I was gonna do a mod to have her stand, but changed my mind.

Mishka has a video about hot air repair in the sticky

I too have made a video(s) about repairs with heat, with solvents, and other wacked out ideas. LOL
But my foot repair, In the beginning I'd made some serious damage. Tension was on the TPE, when I could not see how, but figured it out, and fixed it.
Damage is nowhere near as bad on your doll, it can be fixed. Hot air, mineral oil, and some high thread count cloth. Even a nice tight textured sponge works good too.

The damage is at the end of video, in case you want to skip through the boring stuff :) The damage was much worse, then I'd shown though. LoL
It's ok we fix!!
