Can you tell me where to get a doll like this?

Post by j9999 »

Can you tell me where to get a doll like this? She's beautiful, isn't she? I tried to look and can't find a doll like this to buy anywhere. I thought at least one of you guys might know. Also, even if you can't tell me exactly where to buy, can you tell if it is a modern doll? I think it probably is. And how expensive it might be? Probably pretty expensive, right?

She is beautiful, and nicely photographed too.
She's a BJD (Ball Jointed Doll) possibly 1/3 size or 60cm tall but maybe a smaller one at 45cm tall.
There are a number of manufacturers who make and sell them. I myself have one by DollsTown and another by Iplehouse. Mine are both 60cm.
You may also want to take a look at Fairyland, Volks, Luts, Ringdoll or Doll Chateau. There are many others and it might be worth taking a look at the forum Den of Angels which is dedicated to BJDs.
The cost can be between about $400 and $800 generally but you can pay more and also less, but not much less. There are fakes around for less. The cost is in some ways irrelevant because the second hand price is almost if not equal to the purchase price so you don't lose much money, if any.

Here's my Iplehouse Soo. 60cm SID.

Quite a few similar looking BJD's on ebay. Please note: the top 2 links are resin copies. Not an endorsement, just trying to give an idea of what's out there.

This one is most definitely a fake. That's a DollsTown 18 body and the image has been stolen from their website.

Do Not trust E-Bay for BJDs unless they are second hand.

Hi.
I'm the new one and I actually joined this Forum for the most part because of this post (or, to be more specific: because of the Doll of yours)
I'm a long time watcher of this Forum and have myself a bunch of 1/6 Phicens/TBLeague. But after seeing your Doll I just want that one.
Do you have any Tipps/Recommendations for me. I have absolutely no Experience with BJD, but I know, that they are relatively pricy.

Please excuse my poor writing/Grammer, but I'm from Germany and my english is a little rusty ;)

Thx in advance

Hi 2bfanatic, welcome to the forum. Many thanks for your compliments and I am very pleased that you like my Soo.
If you would like to order one the same, or very similar, have a look here; http://iplehouse.com/home/shop/item.php ... 36&nhn1=en
She is an Iplehouse SID female. (SID means senior Iplehouse doll and denotes her size.) You will see that there are options when ordering like body and breast type. I chose new and small. The skin colour of mine is normal. I also chose the mobility type thigh which is an extra joint at the thighs which enables more complex sitting poses. I also chose type B makeup which I notice has now been changed slightly from when I ordered. It is a good idea to have the face painted at the factory because the artists are superb and the alternative is that you have to pay a specialised 'Face-Up' artist to do the work. It is a difficult process for someone without experience so I would recommend having the face-up.
The wig was ordered from a UK dealer but you can choose a wig from the Iplehouse site of your preference. The clothing she is wearing is also from Iplehouse http://iplehouse.com/home/shop/list.php ... 50&nhn1=en
If you go back to the Iplehouse home page http://iplehouse.com/home/index.php?pag ... ex&nhn1=en you can see that there are other sizes of dolls like EID and YID. I would suggest that you take some time to browse through these models as you may find a doll you would prefer to have. The waiting time from order to delivery is usually around one month with a face-up.
I hope this has been helpful and if you have any more questions please ask.

Happy hunting.

Thanks everyone for the info. And your doll is beautiful, by the way Mondoon. Have you ever had someone do a face up outside the factory? That does sound difficult. I didn't know it was such and involved and complicated thing. Somewhat anyway. Not as simple as ordering a lot of things.

I only learned what face up is after continuing to look for a doll like the one in my op. I still can't. Found lots of the BJDs and maybe Luts looks the closest, but none of them seem to be that similar. Could it be a more unknown brand doll that just happened to be done really well? The big companies just don't seem to match.

Thanks j9999. I have had one face-up done professionally. When my first doll arrived, a DollsTown, the factory don't do face-ups and I sent her head away to a lady in the South of England to have the work done. It took her close to a mointh. There are artists in most countries who will do the work and you can find them through Facebook groups or the BJD forum Den of Angels. The cost is around $30 but maybe more so it's worth considering if you don't have it done at the factory.
It is very possible that the doll you originally posted is made by a company I haven't listed and she may have had a face-up by an artist. Have you had a good look at Fairyland, she kind of reminds me of one of theirs. The face-up can actually make a huge difference to the way a doll looks. If you do an image search for an Iplehouse Soo you will see that the same sculpt can look vastly different depending on the paint. I hope you manage to find one you like, they are delightful to work with for photography due to ease of portability and they are also really nice to have sat around the house.

EMAIL the picture to several of the major small doll makers they may know where to get it or if it is discontinued.

There will definitely be some more questions... but first I have to gather some money. So it might take one or two month, before I order her :D

@Mondoon again

I have ordered her yesterday and want to ask you some more questions:
1. my order is still marked as "before payment" ...even though I already payed via Paypal and also received a Mail for confirmation.
How long does it normaly take to get a status-update?
2. about clothing: I didn't order any clothing for now (money :D ) but does the stuff for the other bodys also fit? I find the clothing for the sid-body a little lacking, to be honest.
3. still clothing: what about cheaper ebay-stuff? Is staining a problem? (with phicen/tbleague it definetly can be)
I don't want my $800,00+ (there will still be taxes) -Doll ruined by cheap clothing.

There will definetly be more questions, once she arrives... I can't wait :D

Hi 2bfanatic and congratulations on your potential new arrival. I'm sure you will be extremely pleased when she arrives.
The order may take a day or three to change from "before payment". Nothing to worry about, it will change fairly soon.
You will get email notifications next when she is dispatched together with tracking info. That starts on EMS and transfers to a local carrier, UPS in England.
The clothing for other dolls will not fit an SID. That is why they separate the clothing out. The EID dolls are 70cm tall but the nYID girls like Bliss are 58.7cm tall so not far off an SID.
You could take a chance on nYID clothes if they are loose fitting but I find that the SID clothing fits pretty much exactly.
You do have choices too, and very good ones. Firstly I use Alices collections a lot. http://www.acbjd.com/ Chinese based, very quick and reliable and plenty of choice but you need to stick to the size designation 1/3 SD. You can also try Wamami which has an Ebay shop. I have had nice quality clothes and shoes very cheaply from there and again they have been very reliable and fast. My Soo and Katie wear a lot of black clothes and although there is a warning with the Iplehouse clothing I have never had any bleed. I did however have a pair of Wamami black tights (the only item ever to stain) which stained Katie's legs after about an hour so it's best to keep an eye on them. I removed the stains with a cloth and washing up liquid. Soo has been sat around in the black Iplehouse hippy outfit for three weeks now with no dye transfer.
The resin of BJD's can be prone to yellowing over a long period of time (years) so it's advisable not to subject her to strong sunlight for extended periods. In my case it's only for the duration of a photo shoot.
I would estimate around a month until dispatch if you ordered the face-up. Don't be concerned if you hear nothing, they are very reliable, but if you do have any questions for them there is a members area on the Iplehouse website for you to post questions about your order number.

Best wishes and looking forward to seeing your version of Soo.
