Morning,

Today's Figma is the battleship Nagato from Kancolle. Another instance of liking the figure's design over the source, this one features unique attachable guns and turrets that fit her purpose as a personified battleship in a woman's body. Parts of her design such as cabled attachments on her legs and her headpiece add to the unique appearance.

As a figure my favorite parts of this one are the face plates. Each Figma you purchase comes with up to three unique faces that can be swapped for different expressions, and while most of the time it usually includes a pattern of a mild smile and smiling face, Nagato includes a happy smile, a shy embarrassed face, and a serious and focused expression, and all three match up to the original drawings from the source artwork.

That one reminds me of Catherine my DS 145 plus, even had purple eyes too.

Next Figma to be a added is a rarer one with a classic white dress.

Very nice collection. Figmas don't seem to be too expensive, yet have a nice quality to them all the same (and nice boxes to boot). Might be worth looking into to add some variety and anime to my collection.

My collection is all Sideshow and Bowen X-Men statues ranging between 1/4 - 1/6 scale, so I only have around 25 of them due to price. I really need to get a lighting solution setup for the ones in display cabinets but MAAAAN am I lazy.

Price is probably one of their best aspects, even the rarest Figmas are under $200 to buy from the secondhand market and most of the time you can find it brand new and sealed. I do like some statues but if there is the choice I always prefer the articulated variety.

Today's Figma is a very cute Saber Bride from Fate / Extra.

Featuring series character Saber wearing a unique wedding dress more comfortable somewhere in the anime Twilight Zone, this figure is one of the rarer models due to being one that comes with a special edition game release. A few of the Figma figures only come in this way, as part of a collector's edition video game so unfortunately an art box similar to other Figmas isn't available, instead replaced by a color art box that holds the game and extras without the figure as the focal point.

Saber Bride is shown off well in figure form, from the intense level of detail on the veil rose to the carefully added paintwork on the zippered portions, this is such a great looking and durable figure but makes you want to handle it like a fragile ornament.

I have both Motoko Kusinagi's (Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. & Arise) and like both figures a lot. I think for the scale they are pricey, but they are really nice figures.

Having now seen your Sonico, I may need to find her for my collection so that she can sit on my monitor stand while I'm playing Sonciomi. I have also noticed that they have started doing Overwatch characters. Oh my bleeding wallet!

The price is always a big one, for those of you who don't collect these figures normally speaking in the US a brand new deluxe figure that comes in the larger square shaped boxes can run anywhere between $60-100 USD, and if it's a new release it may cost a bit more if you didn't buy it from a vendor or store.

Just like Pokémon cards, I recommend buying a new release figure (if you didn't preorder) about two weeks after the release date in your country when it's closer to the original Japanese MSRP so you don't overpay. That figure on ebay for over $100 will likely go down to a retail store price of $75-80.

Overwatch figures are also getting more major releases started, so far Figma has only released Tracer and I believe Genji but they already having Widow and now Reaper for preorder, with both figures looking great. I've already added Reaper to my wanted list.

Afternoon,

Today's Figma is the cute mascot character Phantasmoon from Carnival Phantasm, a parody anime centering around the Fate / Stay Night universe.

The show is one of the best I've viewed in a while, I got into the show while researching the figure. The Fate series is known for it's drama and violence, with this show throwing all that out in favor of pure comedy featuring many of the well known characters. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend watching it on YouTube where all the episodes are subbed in English for anyone to enjoy.

I've posted a link to the video playlist and embedded the first episode here so you can start watching. I recommend it highly if you want to relax and enjoy a great comedy variety show.

Morning,

Today's Figma is Kuroyukihime the female protagonist of Accel World in her avatar outfit. Haven't watched the show before but it looks alright, not into battle anime myself.

This figure is notable for the inclusion of a full skirt snap on design, meaning the black skirt is completely solid and is made up of two halves that fit together and clasp onto a specially designed underwear piece. Once put together, the skirt will not fall off the figure except by intentionally damaging it, and the figure still can be posed when assembled within the dress skirt so leaning poses are still viable. It's an excellent design that maintains Figma's level of articulation and attention to character-specific detail.

I've started using a new photo setup that will be applied to my full size doll photos, including the use of a custom stand for my camera and the use of reflectors to help add light where it has trouble reaching. A little work with cardboard and aluminum foil brings out some really enjoyable photos.
