Clothing?

Post by ahdistusta_koston »

I've noticed it's very hard to find regular clothing for mini dolls. There doesn't seem to be a wide selection. Does anyone here just make their own clothing? I thought about that, but I haven't really stitched together anything before. Do you get them custom done?

Like I haven't even bought my mini doll yet. However I've been thinking a lot about the clothing. The lingerie is easy to find on we websites that you buy them. Yet regular clothing. pants, shorts, shirts, etc is elusive or am I just not looking in the right places?

I looked on this forum down and some recommended websites like ebay but this guy is out. AMY-COUTURE-SHOP For some reason I'm not finding much when I look on ebay...

Anyways, how easy is it to home make clothing for a beginner?

I guess that's the massive downside to mini dolls. The full sized one you can just go to any store and get clothing for.

I was gonna say Ebay, but you're out of that.
There's a sticky in this forum with some website that sell clothing for miniature dolls.
What continent are you on? http://www.machinegun.fr (french) sell Phicen dolls, and also some regular clothes for them, last time I looked there. Which is quite a while ago.
I have a dollalbum, with loads of nice pics. My twinsister Erika has her own album, which also has some pics of me hanging out with her. We have our own thread where we post our pics. Stop by and say Hi!

Don't forget to take a look at my girlfriend Juliana.

My Lexi visits lots of places. Allison is featuring in her travels. Allison has her own thread too.

That's www.machinegun.fr but for some reason editing the post didn't really work :?

One of the problems getting clothes fitting is that they are scaled down adults so just because they're small doesn't mean children's clothes will fit! Getting some clothes over the doll's head or pulling on jeans or trousers can also be a problem! That's the bad news! However, there are things like button or zip up the back tee shirts, tops and dresses, making it easier to get over their heads. Stretch shorts and jeans help but remember, you need to powder well before putting clothes on and stockings help with trousers etc.
If you can't sew, you can get some stick-on Velcrow, cut the tops up the back which don't fit very well and just use the Velcrow to fasten them! I'm sure she won't stay in them for long anyway!
Look at the original dimensions of the doll and see what range they come in. Google can help on women's and children's clothes sizes so at least you know what she is! I'm getting a WM168 Nava as she's skinny. I didn't realise how skinny till I looked at the dimensions and even though she's tall, she's in a range that a 10yr old could be in (UK4, EU32, US 1). That helped me a lot in starting to look.
If you're worried about browsing in shops it also helps if you know what size you're looking for (like in Pretty Woman, for your niece of course). It gets easier, so just get a few to start and you'll have more enjoyment later finding new stuff!

Is this about mini dolls (about 100cm) or miniature dolls (60cm and less)?

I do own two 60cm Tokyo dolls. Sure it's hard to find nice clothing. Look for clothing for BJDs. There's quite a lot but it's expensive.
I bought some clothes at a local shop specialised in BJD stuff. Only problem is that most BJDs are more thin than my Tokyo dolls (these BJDs all suffer from anorexia  ).

Like Nes said even clothing made for doll in a certain scale does not guarantee that it will fit. But look at it this way: When you like small dolls then what can be more fun than making clothes yourself for them? The making of something as simple as a bikini will get you busy for hours, but the costs won't kill you. Even after your 15th failure the costs for material are still a laugh   Meanwhile you learn to make something new and in the process you start to get respect for all those that enjoy the same hobby. And with any luck you create something good for which you will surely get a lot of respect here. For here we all know that buying clothes is just a matter of money, but making them yourself is quite a different story. :)
