Help on heads

Post by Axion »

So now I'm interested in 1/6 dolls. Lot of possibilities and they seem to be what I'm looking for since I'm really looking for a model that will be available for photography 24/7 that isn't going to cost or have a jealous bf to worry about

I like the phicen dolls, also liking hot stuff. I really like this body:

http://www.onesixthwarriors.com/forum/m ... o-1-a.html

am worried about head though. Anyone have tips on what brands of heads fit this body? I've been looking everywhere but all the loose heads I find are from different companies. I don't know anything about these mini-dolls so any advise is helpful. Thanks!

The 'skin' looks fantastic in the professional photos, but unfortunately that seam in the more 'real life' pictures further into the thread looks really really awful!

The Triad heads and clothing seem to work well tho, judging by the conversation and pics.

_If_ you don't get finger pokes or breakages from use, then the poseability is fantastic.

However, the durability and visible seam issues versus price, especially once you've found a head that matches skin tone etc....I don't know.

In principle it's a good idea... maybe wait to see if they iron out some of the kinks?

I reckon just get a Triad or a Phicen (or a Tonner BJD!) in the meantime and have fun

If I understand correctly (and I might not, so you might want to wait for further advice), any heads that are designated for 1/6th figures should fit it.

I ordered the same doll and it should be arriving tomorrow. But instead of photography, I'm using the dolls for reference poses for my paintings.
Since poses are my only concern, I just went with a cheap head:
http://www.7-hobby.com/ttl-68006a-ttl-f ... hairstyle/

I don't know why there are so few separate female heads on the market... there are tons of male ones out there. But then I guess it could be because most male figures don't come with heads.

You can see some other heads from the same site here:
http://www.7-hobby.com/loose-parts/

A small hand full of nice celebrity head sculpts here:
http://www.kghobby.com/1-6-female/

Here's a place with some very pretty, but very expensive custom jobs (same site has some nice reasonably priced male heads as well):
http://www.dollsfigure.com/productF.asp?mtype=31

A few more places I found 1/6th heads (think some of these are for sculpting and painting):
http://www.mimiwoo.com/index.php?cPath= ... 9dd94089ad
http://picclick.com/HOT-TBL-CG-CY-Girl- ... 89044.html
http://www.dollcharacters.com/girl/9337 ... -head.html

I also ordered this doll:
http://www.7-hobby.com/pl-201102-12-phi ... body-pale/
but it was a pre-order set to be delivered this month (but no day established yet) so I'll let you know how they compare when I get them side by side.

Also on a side note, if you're looking for a male model, this is the nicest looking one I've seen so far:
http://www.7-hobby.com/cmtoys-hj001-cmt ... ody-hj001/
which should also be arriving tomorrow, so if you're interested in my input, I'll tell you about him too.

Thanks for the tips.
I went ahead and ordered a TTL PMC Baby

Image

and a red bunny doll, getting the black bunny doll this weekend so I can have the pair.

Image

decided against the seamless body because I hadn't thought about how hard it might be to get clothes on it. Since this is my first go at minis figure I'd start with basics and go from there.

ibella you are right about the lack of heads! Looked everywhere and kept seeing the same basic heads. Hopefully they start making more. Nice to know they fit on most dolls. Ton of male dolls out there, mostly military types. Which is another problem now.. clothing. Where do you get decent clothes for minis? I have seen a lot of military unis but looking for a more risque look

Have a feeling I'm going to end up with a room full of these ladies before long haha

oh pics please when you get it. That's the head/body set I almost went with.
The Cotsworld selections seemed really good.. I also liked the Sienna and Saffron heads. Those Alpha females have some possibilities too and they are pretty reasonable.

ack, after doing some searching, I see how finding clothes for 1/6th scale dollies can be a problem. Guess we can chalk that up to so many of the dolls coming complete with head and outfit as well too... Triad and some others make a few outfits, but not many.

I was planning on making my own clothes when I need drapery references for my paintings, so didn't even think about it. Looks like there are a few people out there that handmake and sell clothes though.

On the Hot Stuff-bodys most heads will fit if you use "blue-tac" to attach it.
And for 1/6 outfits there is only one(and every) place: eBay!!!

I think I have 5 different outfits for my Ylva(on the pics)

Awesome pics Nightingale!

Alright, so got all my doll stuff except for the preorder. Here's a pic to show how the heads fit the bodies:

Agree with Nightingale - Ebay is great for outfits! :)

I recommend Dollsfigure (rare-figuretoys on ebay) good choice, quick delivery.

I bought the same Phicen. I now own several of their dolls. They are the best doll for the money I think. Plus they offer different skin tones. I have a 'fetish' for 1/6 size dolls and find these dolls work very well. I video tape ... 'adult activities' and these can be made to look exceptionally real.

As for heads - I'd suggest looking at the specialty Barbie dolls. The adult dolls look very good and are way cheaper than so many of the on line alternatives.

One additional note that strikes me as important to mention is to pay attention to the shade of the head sculpts skin. I bought heads that look terrible because they are not even close to the bodies color.

It is 6 years later and the head sculpts have gotten better. It is still wise to check before you buy.
