Best way to get started?

Post by adelea »

Some of these 1/6 scale dolls are very cute, and I wouldn't mind a couple as shelf decorations.

But, it all seems VERY confusing to me!

You need to buy body and head separately?

I am not so much interested in getting a doll of a movie character, but more getting one and dressing her how I want to -- much like with my Adara!

What is the best way to get started? I dont want to spend a fortune, but I dont want to buy crap either.

1/6 ball joint type dolls are a lot less expensive than the seamless ones. More durable too, especially for dress up and less prone to staining from clothes. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=111672

Took the plunge, and ordered one - she arrived today.

Bought some other outfits for her, but they came from a different vendor, and arent here yet.

Cant believe how expensive some of these items are, but I love these shoes!

I'm also interested in these mini-beauties.
I'll be watching this thread to see how you get on. That outfit and the shoes are amazing! :D

Much easier to pose her than Adara!

But, much harder to dress her! Took me over 30 mins to get those stockings onto her!

I can see she wont remain alone for long! They are very cute :)

I want to do her fingernails, which are unpainted, but they are SO TINY! Going to have to get some microbrushes if that is a thing.

Great start! My first two (with heads) came from Movie Figures.co.uk but I now get them from eBay and sometimes from Amazon. Heads come in between £15-30 or more but matching the colour of heads to bodies can be difficult as LoneRanger has found! You could also look at Jiaou Dolls which are a bit cheaper but probably not quite the same quality as Phicen. The advantage of those though is that the medium breasted ones are slightly slimmer than the Phicens so some Barbie clothes just about fit! Barbie clothes are a lot cheaper but can be too small usually!

You will need to use powder to get tight clothes like stockings on! You need to roll them up like a real lady might do and feed the foot end in first rather than try to pull them through the length of the stocking though!

I love the clothes you’ve got already though! My girls are very jealous!

Cheers, Hollows.

I tried rolling them up like I do to put them on Adara, but since they are so small, it ended up like a thick inflexible band.

I ended up slowly massaging them up her legs an inch at a time.

Powder! Will try that if I ever take them off :)

I went for the busty body - which in retrospect may have been a mistake. To get those clothes on, I had to pretty much undo all the corset ties at the back to get it on, and then do them all up tight again.

The other outfit I have ordered for her, is a nice cocktail dress -- I'm suspecting it wont actually fit!

When her stiletto's arrive though, it will be OK - I'm happy having her dressed in lingerie and heels :)

I've developed an interest in starting a mini collection myself.

Interested in learning more prior to making a purchase for sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Naz

Just diving in seems to be the best bet Nazario!

The first one I bought, was from a UK vendor on ebay, and included head and body.

After that I've been buying bodies and heads separately.

There are a lot of different heads out there! I'm not sure what the head on Felicity is, but Kendall is a SuperDuck SDH002A, and Lou-Anne is a FlirtyGirl FGC2017-HS46A.

So find a head you like, then pick a body to go with!

I've stayed with Phicen/TBLeague so far. My first was a large bust in suntan, and im not really a fan of the colour, so my others are in pale.

I found this webpage, which has a comparison of the models up to the S23B:

https://giantoy.com/blogs/guides/how-to ... emale-body

The S24A(pale)/S25B(tan) are a bit shorter, and the S26A/S27B are shorter still:

My first was a large bust (because, well, I'm a guy!), but most of the clothes I bought dont fit her, so all my subsequent bodies were the medium bust - and clothes seem to fit better.

There are lots of clothes on ebay, aliexpress and etsy. Though be prepared for some sharp intakes of breath!

I've so far stayed away from the "collectible" side of things, where you buy a figure and clothes that will create a "character". I guess for those, you just find one you like and buy it :)
