Articulated Hands and Feet

Post by da_putzler »

Sometimes the devil is in the details and having properly articulated hands and feet for a doll brings immense pleasure to it's owner instead of the current wire method. I was wondering how much more expensive it would be to 3d-print these, plastic wrap and coat in tpe/silicone so that they move more like the real thing.

apparently the tpe material is poured into a mold and is very hot, so something like this would have to be very heat proof so it doesn't melt , and then it might be a matter of some type of high temperature glove like over these joints otherwise the tpe melted hot material may settle into the joints area making the jointed hand useless .
so i think that might be the situation with something like this.

I think I'm onto something.
These are jointed plastic RC airplane parts, bonded together with a product called "Bondic". It's a weld, not glue. Quite robust. The joints are nice and stiff and would easily hold a position.
I'll load a vid to my cloud and post a link.

Got in the brass barrel hinges today
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Durable ... autifyAB=0
Totally unsuitable as finger joints. Can't be peened to tighten the joint without damaging them.
The plastic RC hinges will be the finger joints and I'll use these universal coupler joints for the knuckles
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-3x3mm-Bras ... 1438.l2649
and join everything together with a combination of copper 3mm solid stock and 4mm copper tubing joined to Crazy Cajuns improved palm plate.
Parts on order, stay tuned :-)

This is where fabric dolls would have an advantage. Segmented fingers would make them look less 'muppet-y' too.

I know they can design it and make it. just wondering when will they make the transformation. Cause those finger wires are just plain messy.

Totally agree - just received my 2 CLM torso dolls - great dolls with amazing breasts and faces but the hands are terrible, all loose, limp and floppy.
