FDM TPU printing, is it ok to come in contact with TPE?

Post by MyDollIsHappy »

Hi all,
I want to try to create a wand to build a doll washing machine. And I did some research about printable flexible material. Did any one of you tried to print TPU? As far as I could find out it should be save to get in contact with TPE? I might build the core of the wand with PLA and then create a hull to put over. The downside might be that it is to sticky and would need lube to insert. I am not sure about that.

But TPU would might be a wonderful material to add flexible parts to dolls. I don't know how healthy this material is I found out that there is medical grade TPU [1] so it should be OK but who knows :D

I did some more research, the main problem about that material is that it will also collect bacteria. So nothing for a washing machine.

But I found and tested this design [1] with PLA 10% infill with an flashlight device. It works really good. I will reprint it with 100% inflill because it startet to leak at the connector because the thin walls could not stand the preasure. I will need to add a screw connector to the other side as well to be able to connect a hose for the flow out. But looks promising.

NOTE: this is not my design, I just tested it (the smaller one) with an flashlight.
