MOST DOLLS DO NOT LOOK REAL- HOW TO FIX

Post by auto78900 »

hy, after visiting a few times here I notice that most dolls do not look real, actually none of them. So I was wondering if this is done on purpose so that people dont get scared of these dolls ? Anyone with normal vision can see that most wax figures and silicone babies look much more real than these dolls , just to give you an example here is a youtube link to a silicone baby - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmnAFcUev0Y

For an idea why dont they use Laser copying technology, if making these dolls look more real is so difficult ? In some factories they can use 3D Laser copying for almost anything.

Real Dolls, Private Island Beauties, Anatomical Dolls, and many Japanese makers have fairly realistic dolls. I agree there are many makers that produce a more fantasy type doll too.

This doll in pic not realistic enough for you?

I'd like to see doll makers take face casts of very attractive women, and go from there. Now if only Angelina Jolie would be a willing model :)

It's not just the dolls that do the work, it's also the people handling the dolls that make the difference.

Two of my own pics, which I think look pretty real:

and here's one of Stacy's pics, which I think looks pretty real:

Dang, I'd have to do a search again to find the thread.

Actually this pic is kind of a tease. The doll IS real, but only available in Japan/ non export or something like that. She's also around 10 grand!

OK, here you go. Project Level D.

Thanks BG

I think it's been clearly pointed out that there are very nice dolls to be had. If the poster cannot find anything to his liking it must be he who has the problem.
Must make love to himself in the mirror??? LOL

I'll take the OP on face value because I think I can understand the question, and think I have a simple enough answer. The question was they though dolls like the Reborns looked closer in photos to real babies than most full size dolls we see to real people. You're more likely to mistake a Reborn photo for a baby photo than an average doll photo for a real girl. I think the issue is simply the cost of detailing doesn't scale as well. You can get skin blush, fine hair, soft translucent skin, but it takes lots of labor and the detailing requires extra care. We treat adult toys like adults, while Reborns and museum figures get extra care. To stand up to normal adult handling durability comes to the fore and detailing is less important. You can pay 50% more AND be 50% less durable. It's a trade off that most manufacturers think their customers won't make. One of my pet theories is that you can find a low light level where the cues from the doll starts to match that of a person and it's easier to ignore the imperfections. It's also a matter that that all other things being equal (cost, durability, classic form, mental projection, etc.) they are "good enough". Of course everyone wants better, but better comes at a cost most can't currently pay. I work with some world class animatronics peeps that show near photorealism can be done, but their current price is in the $50k - $100K range. So we don't have general availability today, but sometime soon perhaps. At least that's my long take on it as a straight question.

Hi OP. Why fix what ain't broke? You go into this knowing they are dolls so naturally you won't believe they are real.
If you feel like fixing then feel free to show us the secret.
But there is one small problem and that is some members do make those dolls look real.
Do us all a favor and come at the best photographers and show them how you can fix the fake. Break it down mang.

Other than text what do you have?

I understand where this new, well, actually not so new guy is coming from.
He's asking about making more realistic dolls, and what are the barriers from preventing that.
I see where he's coming from and this is the prefect place to ask those questions.
He doesn't have any ideas, that's why he came here.
Here's an example of a realistic doll:

The main reason I chose to get an RD is for "close as possible" to reality. Karen is my first doll. She is a used RD. She looks more real in her photos then in realty and that works for me because it gives her life. Its all in the eye of the beholder. Those silicone baby dolls actually look gross to me. As previously stated durability over detail is how it works because the main difference between the dolls is the purpose they serve to the owner. Here are a few pictures of Karen.
