Price of designing a TPE doll

Post by Floydpink »

Lets say I have a digital 3D model of a woman. Does anyone here have an estimate of what it would cost to go from that to a fully produced TPE doll body (ignoring the head for now)? I wouldn't be doing the manufacturing myself, I'd contact one of those chinese factories that make the majority of the dolls on the market today. Maybe outsource much of the design work like fitting the skeleton, adding orifices, and making the mold etc.

Not sure anyone has done it....but this question crops up time and time again.

Head alone is around 3k....let you figure out the cost of a body. Also, will it be a one off just for you...or prepared to lower the cost by letting them use the new mould they have created for anyone else?

Just 3k for a fully custom head? That's not bad at all, I don't really need the head anyway as there are plenty of good heads on the market, but translated to the body the cost should stay in the same order of magnitude, no? The steps are mostly the same, a body is just bigger.

If I were to do this it wouldn't need to be a one-off. Either the factory could keep using the mould if that means a discount, or I could use it myself and start a little doll designing business. But this is all very hypothetical, at least for the time being.

So if the body is much larger...why would it be in the same area?

Because the labor of manufacturing a mold, filling it, etc doesn't change much even if it's larger. It's mostly automated, at least I assume so. There's more material but TPE and metal is pretty cheap anyway. Or maybe I'm completely wrong here. I'm guessing the biggest difference would be having to build the skeleton but that may not even have to be custom, I'm sure many dolls use the same skeleton internally, just the body mould is different.

Well, I looked it up, one vendor that is here on TDF does offer such opportunity. Body would cost 4.5k GBP there.
If you are considering this I would think it is the best to ask manufacturers and vendors directly.
The aforementioned offer is connected to an certain assortment of heads though.

Hey Floydpink,

Have just copy pasted some info from a post we made in reddit (so ignore the personalised stuff) and some info may seem pretty basic as we're talking to a full-on newbie

Hope it helps! :glou:

"We are a TDF approved vendor and we love doing custom build dolls in fact about 98% of our dolls are customised in some way or another rather than bought pre-configured. It's our speciality.

You can check out our credentials here. https://www.siliconelovers.com/pages/ab ... d-verified

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CUSTOMISE A SEX DOLL?
Expect approx 3-4months for a head; it can almost be double that or more for a full-body if there are loads of amendments. (This is from scratch, we're not talking basic customisations on existing models here.)

They do take quite a while to build, to be honest, especially if it is with a busy manufacturer. As @phoenixblue mentioned, some manufacturers simply say no to customers who approach directly and say that they are too busy (especially if they don't have a vendor to act as a project manager/buffer/translator! ) It can be better to go with smaller, less busy companies.

HOW MUCH DOES A SEX DOLL COST TO CUSTOMISE?
The head alone will set you back approx $2500-3000 plus (USD), dependent on how complex it is. It's normally a set fee. (BTW I am talking TPE not silicone.)

With some brands, we can negotiate a payment plan for project milestones but most require a 50% upfront fee to contract the sculptor.

Full body customisations are around double that so 5-6000k. Again, it's dependant on weight/complexity. If we're talking elf ears or tails etc it's going to be different to a "regular" build. If it's a BBW then the weight will add cost to both material and shipping.

HOW TO TO SAVE COST + TIME ON SEX DOLL CUSTOMISATIONS:
I would recommend trying to find a body first in our "custom doll builder" area that you like and THEN consider just doing a customised head as this will save a lot of time and money. There are so many different bodies already on the market and it's easy to navigate our site by either brand/size/body type etc to find your perfect match. If it's not listed on our site but seen elsewhere (from a manufacturer we would trust and be ok selling to you), we can source it. (See below links for our custom doll builder.)

SEX DOLL CUSTOMISATION TIPS
Something to bear in mind is that our website is set up to specialise in customisation so with either bodies or faces we include standard customisation options for free. If you find a face that's remotely similar to the one you need to create, you may be surprised what a difference the right wig, eyes and make-up can do to transform a face. We are happy to email you examples of the same face looking quite different, just let me know which ones are of interest by indicating brand and #.

Another thing that people often don't realise is that you can't just add say bigger breasts to a current body mould eg I want the 166C-cup but as a 166M-cup. The customisations you can make to an existing mould is quite extensive but limited to skin tone and then cosmetic details like nail colour rather than the actual mould shape.

I'm not trying to turn you off a full custom build, but I think it's good to know all the options to consider when you're in the research stage.

GENERAL ADVICE

If I were you and money was no issue, as you say, I would actually buy the most similar looking doll as a "practice" doll. That way you can learn more about it so that when you actually create a customised doll, you REALLY know what you want to improve or keep the same - like the love hole placement, or if you have an insert vs a fitted vagina , standing vs non-standing, thighs thicker/thinner, certain areas more detailed etc....I can send you a list of considerations...

People that don't do their homework often end up going through quite a few dolls and mistakes before they figure things out. Ideally, you want to shortcut through that BS with a vendor to guide you.

Also, of course, a practice doll means you have a doll to keep you company while you wait on your custom build. Trust me, just the wait for shipping can be brutal if you're not the patient type.

Anyway - I have PM'd you with the specs we require to get a quote if you're interested in working with us. If not, I highly recommend a TDF approved vendor so you don't get promised the world and receive an atlas. 8O

We are available on live chat (from 10am - 10pm GMT) weekdays and some weekends or you can leave a message A/H if you have any questions.

Hope that helps! :fadein:

I would ballpark around 20,000 US (made in China)

You are asking for the MOST skilled people working on your project for about a month.
Basically, R&D, which is usually the owner and one or two other people have to stop working on their business and instead work on your project.

The reason that you can get it for less is that these companies are banking on selling more dolls out of this mold.
Once they figure out all the problems, getting the skeleton size just right.
Casting one, see if it works, see where the problems are.
Casting another, get things better
Cast one for you.

If you were to pay an american engineer it would be about $100,000.

You, of course can learn how to cast yourself.
If you can 3D print the body parts, then clean up the positive, you can make a mold and cast your own.

You may approach a chinese manufacturer with a complete positive.

Comedian Whitney Cummings had a life size sex doll made in her likeness by Reabotix which she presented on stage and you can see in her performance on Netflix. I wonder if it's some sort of stock body with her face or an exact copy of her entire likeness. Anyways, you can see a picture and article of the duo at https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/08/ ... womanhood/ .

After looking at Whitney's performance and her beautiful doll, it definitely looks like some stock body was used as it is shorter than the comedian. However, she shows some clips at the end of the performance how they made the head with her likeness.

Yeah, it is a pain in the ass pulling a mold off of a living person.
Everything moves. And when you slap quick setting elastomer on them, it doesn't let the skin hang the way it normally does.
And then, the damn things breath. Aaaarrrrgggh. Can't block nose and mouth at the same time... "for reasons"

I feel if i was going to do this, i would do a laser 3D scan of the person, and then print a 3D model one mm smaller.
And then fill up with microcrystaline wax to get all the details. The problem is with this method you lose all the skin wrinkle details.

That must be why Realbotix did both a life cast and 3D of Whitney which you can see on the Netflix performance.
