Scrap Metal Ball Bearing Wrist and Palm plate

Post by RGC_0767 »

Made from scrap metal. The only thing new was the ball :)

Need more side to side. Up and down could use a bit more.
Was just bored and dreamed up this for your doll. Anyone can tweak this and make it work for their doll. It will definitely work. Not sure how easy it would come loose. It is scrap metal after all LOL
It's not finished, but concept is all there.
Have Fun.

And...I likey :D ...and I add in here are your finger wire inserts.... (shankball each end)

into either a 5 port pneumatic terminal block or plate (mill and drill 101)

Image

or prefab PTFE - Teflon (needs to this compound due to higher melting point than tpe injection temp) electrical terminal block

and the ball is now rolling.

There are plastic pellets Polymorph. put in boiling water it softens to a gel, then shape to whatever you wish. could wedge the ball wired fingers in that.
The thicker the polymorph is, stronger it is. No 3d printer needed. Polymorph plastic can be reheated and worked with again. Do not think it adheres to metal too well though. It's cool stuff anyway. For a joke I may make a set of eyes... LOL

I tried to drill and tap the ball to put a threaded bolt in. I'd busted all my small drill bits on previous jobs, so pilot hole I was not able to do. Have to get more. So just flared end of brake tube and welded it on ball. Not the best. Just experimenting. Giving others the ideas and passing them along.
For WM could put a smaller tube on this and insert into existing arm, fasten with a self tapping screw.
For the wired wrist type, put tube with a nut on end, screw on to forearm.
Pure concepts.

Nice Anung. Work well for assembly before molding process indeed.
When puttering with this idea, mostly was thinking replacement.

As an experiment, just got some of the polymorph into a gel in two pieces and placed old wires between and sandwiched wires between them
Once hardened, I cannot pull them out without using brute force :) If made to proper size for a palm plate, this would work good to hold any sort of wire replacement. Use a small screw or crimp plate over it. Polymorph would melt during molding for sure. Boiling water is all it takes to gel this stuff.
More low cost solutions anyway.

Got the polymorph stuff from Ebay:
