Robert Leroy Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938)

was an American singer-songwriter and musician. His landmark recordings in 1936 and 1937 display a combination of singing, guitar skills, and songwriting talent that has influenced later generations of musicians. Johnson's shadowy, poorly documented life and death at age 27 have given rise to much legend, including the Faustian myth that he sold his soul at a crossroads to achieve success. As an itinerant performer who played mostly on street corners, in juke joints, and at Saturday night dances, Johnson had little commercial success or public recognition in his lifetime.

Cool idea and great pics. When I saw you had Robert Johnson born 1911 I remembered that was the same year Sonny Terry was born. Sonny, was the harmonica player dubbed for Joe Seneca's character Willie Brown in the 80's movie "Crossroads". Searching for Robert Johnson's missing song. With how Johnson played back then and the influence he has had on music in the last few decades, what if he had lived longer.

Crossroads is one of my fave movies EVER. And Steve Vai? Well what can I say. He played both parts of the duel at the end. See him live. He will blow you away.

Yeah Sonny Terry is probably the greatest harmonica player along with Sonny Boy Williamson and was probably more famous for his work with Walter Brown ("Brownie") McGhee. As a team these guys played some fantastic music. He teamed up with Brownie in 1938 after he met him while he was playing with Blind Boy Fuller as his harmonica player.

Thanks for all the compliments on the photos.

Hello Mondoon!
I see Hanna has found something else to play with.
That Gibson guitar looks really nice and that price tag of $2,700. Oh lawdy!
I haven't played my Alvarez in years, it is currently covered in dust.
Anyway nice to see blues tradition carry on.

Nice pics of Hanna and her guitar...very cool! Reminds me of Yui the Japanese singer playing her Fender acoustic.

Thanks Mudpaw I'm just an old blues man at heart. The Gibson L1 is a really nice small well balanced guitar that comes into its own with a slide. I'm not much good at slide but it's got a lovely tone. In the background on one photo you can just make out the Les Paul Custom 'Black Beauty'. The sound from that is just wonderful. There's nothing that sounds quite like a Les Paul.
It's debatable whether Robert Johnson actually owned a Gibson, I've seen in an interview with Johnny Shines that Johnson lost one guitar in a fire and him and Shines went out playing on the street and by the end of the day Johnson had enough money to go and buy another cheap guitar.

Thanks Goldfinger I've just looked her up on Wiki as I hadn't heard of her. Apparently voted Music Station's 'Artist you would most want to marry' I must have a listen.

Many thanks to everyone else for their kind comments. Don't ya just love it here on TDF

I was powdering Hanna's little skin today and when I finished I stood back admiringly looking at her body. It's got such a lovely form I just had to take a few pictures to show you.

This one's a coloured one from the Robert Johnson set
