Re: WARNING: To buyers of young looking dolls

Post by Nescio50 »

Please no discussion on how to import a young looking doll. If a doll is illegal in your country, don't buy it.

P.S. I do agree with Hollows that buying local (or from within your single market like the EU) is a good way to be sure that there are no import issues.

Please keep discussion here on topic, this thread is basically about age estimation.

Sorry, Nescio, my post was not about how to bend the rules! Pussychatte was looking for a 130-145 because of size and weight.

My comment was really about going to your local or near vendor in order to make sure the doll is a legal import in that country!

Cheers, Hollows.

My concern is I like the Sanhui Doll head #8 but in their infinite wisdom they call it “Marya de Lolita” head... which just begs “does it look too young” scrutiny... looking at the proportions at the beginning of the post it seems adult... any thoughts?

I think it depends on which country you live in. The face would probably be too young. However, on a 158 cm body, you might be able to justify it being an adult. You just might have to appeal to the customs when it is detained.

What are everyone’s thoughts on this face. Too young? Canadian customs.

You would have trouble with that face with Canadian Customs, in that scale doll.

TO me I see a doll face, but from what I have read about Canada doll seizures, the inspectors there would not see a doll face.

I removed the link for RoC compliance.

So browsing dolls on Amazon.ca (as I like to in my spare time) and I came across a doll that looked underage which surprised me. This is Amazon, they're reputable for the most part. Out of curiosity I hit up Amazon.ca support and asked them about it. They said yup, they can sell that. It's up to the buyer to make sure it's legal in their country. I pressed the issue and was told this:
I ensure you that the item is legal and if there are any shipping restrictions it would be given at the check out page.
I don't want to buy the doll, it's not something that interests me, I just wanted to see what Amazon would say. Thoughts?

Not gonna link for obvious reasons.

I often sell Militaria collectibles on Ebay. Shipped from the USA to all over the world. I check the US Postal regulations and if it says it is not prohibited or restricted for their country, I'll ship.
But I do tell the seller I cannot make any guarantees it won't be stolen or confiscated once it leaves the US and tracking no longer possible.

Probably the same with dolls. If it doesn't show up, tough luck.

Here is what I go by: https://pe.usps.com/text/imm/ab_toc.htm

Funny, Canada doesn't list anything about pornography, dolls, sex toys, etc.

Several factors are at play here. TDF exists to promote love dolls and provide information as a sole focus. It is powered by vendor advertisements and an army of generous volunteers for anyone to access, for any reason. The legal liability falls upon two very kind and generous gentlemen with a passion for the positive promotion of love dolls. We should all be thankful for this as it allows the public access to accurate information and a platform to socialize focused on common interests. This forum is in English, so it's reasonable to assume the vast majority of users are Western. You can see for yourself the vast difference of opinion on what looks young. I'm sure there are dolls currently deemed 'too young' that I wouldn't blink about due to the doll being wildly disproportionate and therefore, 'highly stylized' as a doll critique with no consideration for the construction or function of said doll. By and large the vast majority of members here that prefer realistic dolls favor those resembling fertility instead of immaturity.

Amazon is solely an eCommerce platform. I'm sure they also sell works of art that are not authorized by the original artist, knock-off designer clothing, fashion accessories and a whole slew of other legally questionable items. They sell things and make money doing it, that's it. They are a huge company with a large legal team employed to deal with legal issues to protect the company, not you as a consumer. One could call themselves an expert but unless they are familiar with the categorizing aesthetic terms used in the doll-making and customizing industry, I wouldn't offer professional or legal advice. Serious doll collectors all know these terms, that does not make one an expert, but these terms are used regularly in their professionally printed publications and presented in a similar fashion during conventions for owners and industry manufacturing. There are more common themes to different types of dolls and the issues are typically the same. Of all the doll circles I know, intellectual property rights often are a decisive issue due to Asian manufacturers producing recasted dolls (knock-offs).

Non-sexually functional dolls are also sometimes anatomically correct. When this is the case for some dolls, that would in and of itself make it illegal for import or displaying photos of an unclothed doll in some regions, but none that I know use English as their primary common language. There was once, long ago, another English-speaking forum that featured anatomically correct, non-sexually functional dolls that was shut-down by authorities because some of the dolls posed in a sexual fashion were considered Child Abuse Materials. The dolls that were the focus of this erotic themed doll forum were also primarily sculpted by Asian artists and reflected the preferred Asian doll aesthetic. These types of high-end modern dolls for adults have been on the market since 1999. Odd thing, is that type of doll is now self-regulated by the makers and collectors to reflect age. They are still primarily anatomically correct, even the wildly popular child dolls, regularly photographed without clothing, but in a non-sexual manner. This categorizing for doll 'age' is done on a common scale of height (1/6, 1/4 and 1/3 with exceptions) and artists/manufacturing houses adapt a standard for the bust of female dolls to label the bust pieces immature vs mature. For male dolls with different penis parts such as erections and erections while lying down, they are careful to only pair them with faces that have a strong jaw line and eye wells in scale to the other parts of the face and body. It is also discouraged to have 'realistically sculpted baby-fat' on the body and face of those dolls although some do to be hyper realistic. When that is the case, the artist assigns an 'age' to the doll and that usually sticks unless it's disputed by the collector community. I would like to show examples of how other Asian made/Asian aesthetic dolls are categorized for age, but as this is a forum for dolls appearing 18+, I would be in violation of the RoC to show the difference. In other words, import regulations that influence one type of doll can influence the entire hobby of doll owners/collectors.

The best I can offer is for realistic dolls (not stylized dolls like Teddy Babes as example) is to reference portrait making standards for faces and what legal/medical standards are used for guesstimating age and maturity in images based on physical landmarks. So, for female dolls, face, bust, and labia are going to be a good place to start. For males, it would be face, including the illusion of a beard or stubble, face, penis and scrotum. When I see a realistic doll with an immature labia, bust and face, I really don't understand how it's considered 18+. If this is difficult to understand, beards on guys = busts on chicks. Just as not all guys can grow a full, thick beard not all women have a well-developed bust but I'm willing to bet those women and men also have a mature looking face structure and/or genitalia.

It most certainly is the responsibility of any purchaser to ensure their purchase is fine and legal in their region. A colleague of mine once had a surprise visit from government authorizes over some tree seeds he had purchased online, his hobby was bonsai but the import of these seeds were not permitted. He had been doing that hobby for decades and never knew such laws existed! The absolute best way to avoid these issues is to purchase from a vendor in your own region or have the foreign vendor's seizure policy in writing and pay with a method that provides buyer protection such as PayPal. This will at least help you recover the funds.

Nice write up Violette.

It should be mentioned that TDF does not prohibit anyone from owning any doll they want. I know of many DF members who own dolls that are not allowed to be posted on TDF.
I just see a lot of "What about this doll?" on TDF. This is really only a factor IF you want to post pics or discuss the particular doll on TDF. If you like the doll in question and you are legally able to purchase it, go for it. Just don't talk about it on TDF.

That site can’t be relied on for an accurate age determination! I’ve used that with several photos of my Ashaki and it came up mostly with 29 but some came up as young as 12!

Ya know if this stupidity existed back in the ancient days we would not have any great art or statues to admire.

That's a little worrying - the #98 head was on my shortlist before I settled on the #85. In none of the promotional vendor photos does the doll look underage. Ok, so you can say that the makeup makes all the difference, and I've not seen one of that head without makeup on. Does she look that young in her natural state?

I'd be quite worried, that in the event I wanted a replacement head for Lynne, would I get an invite to a "meeting without tea and biscuits" by Border Force? My entire doll got through with no problems, I'm guessing any inspection would show her to be a small chested, but acceptable adult, yet the head alone could be dodgy?
