Hi,
I guess I will start things.
1-If you like long wigs, order a short one for bed time
2- Consider upgrading to a lace wig ( see below )
3- Some places to purchase are mentioned in this thread
4- Tips on cleaning synthetic wigs can be found in this thread, page 6
5. You can use steam to help untangle wigsas discussed here and here

From my experience - Use a wig cap and/or try to avoid those with the black netting inside as it stains the head something terrible. If your doll is your cuddly bed partner then the wig is going to knot and you'll need to brush it every day unless you really like that bed hair look! Either that or have a bedtime wig and another for best/playtime. Wash in fabric conditioner and comb comb comb.
Stray wig hairs get everywhere. I find them in the carpet, washing machine, stuck to my clothes, in the bath, actually found one today stuck to my car door in some dirt - dunno how it got there. Not forgetting the classic; wrapped around the vacuum cleaner brush-roller where you'll need a machette to cut the things off.
Get a variety of them in color and lengths (many many offerings on ebay, amazon and others*) as they really change the look and mood of the doll. Sometimes I prefer a moody brunette but other times a trashy blonde.

At partys you can wear them and pretend to be an 80's rock star.

Well that's all from me.

[edit] *and, of course, your preferred doll vendor.

Most of the synthetic wigs you will come across in this Hobby are not going to last as long as you want them too...

I'd definitely recommend the purchase of a "Tangle Teezer" hair brush.
These relatively inexpensive things make detangling hair an absolute breeze :)

Put a rubber band or something similar and tight around long wigs to prevent them from getting tangled.

I have many wigs.

I have some great wigs from Amazon that were in the 30 to 50 dollar range.

I also have a couple of wigs I purchased from the wig store at the local mall. This was a good experience for me because I was able to see the wig in person and judge the color and quality first hand. Those wigs set me back $80. each. Well worth the cost IMHO.

My favorite wigs are more high end. Not everyone is willing to burn real money on a wig, But I feel like a quality wig is worth the financial strain on my wallet. Everyone has a limit on what they want to spent on their dolls, so I don't judge. My favorite wig is the Zara Petite by Jon Renau. It is a synthetic wig. I have a couple of real human hair wigs and I feel like this one is superior in the color variation and realism. You can catch them on sale for a deal now and then. I never paid full price. Lots of color options. The wig has a petite cap size so it fits the dolls head better than a regular cap sized wig. https://www.wigs.com/products/zara-peti ... WIEALw_wcB

For the bed, and other things, has anyone used a stocking cap? Or a Wig hat like these?

Yep, if you don't like the idea of spending time combing and detangling, or want to do photography with your doll, either go with the "short wig for bed" idea or buy a second wig that you're okay with being the backup.

+1 on the Tangle Teezer. Love that thing. Although the pink handled combs surprisingly kick ass.

Velvet bands will keep wigs from flying off during fun time. Grab a couple of them. https://www.amazon.com/Beauty-Flexible- ... s9dHJ1ZQ==

Probably more but I'm tired.

fabric softener thinned 1:1 with water helps a lot. Detangeling is easier, plus the static of the wig is gone.

First thing I'll advise them is to buy another wig(s) ASAP. As the standard ones are seriously shitty.
I'd look for front lace wigs; definite quality improvement in all aspects of being a wig.

Other than that, def. the before mentioned 'tangle teezer' (not per se name brand, but type), the short wig for in the bed (unless you want to spend your time 'de-tangling' or looking at messed up hair), and last one from personal note : dont overdo the wig length cuz you like long hair; I ended up with a bunch of 24-26" wigs which could as well or some better have been 14-20" too look good and feminine.

I know I'm gonna need one pretty soon as my hair is leaping off of my head!! LOL!

I'm thinking of a heavy metal guitarist hairstyle...

On a serious note. I have always found a way to fix the wig on with pins or something that way when you shift the doll around, pick her up, pose her, the thing doesn't pop off and burn freakish images into your head of VGER possessing Ilia from Star Trek the Motion Picture...

Well, I would definitely recommend a flesh colored nylon wig cap to avoid staining. Larry and Samantha wear one, especially due to the black straps on the wig badly staining Larry's head, but I was able to remove it with TPE Stain Remover. I would recommend going to a local wig store or a beauty supply wholesaler and browsing the various selections of wigs and compare pricing. Amazon is pretty reasonable with their pricing and I have ordered a couple of wigs from them, but most of the wigs that I have, aside from those lovingly gifted to Samantha from L3fty and Tasha Foxx, I have purchased at a local beauty supply wholesaler.
Depending on how much interaction goes on with the wig as far as your hands touching it, etc., I recommend washing them (I have synthetic wigs) once the hair begins to have difficulty in styling. I wash the wigs in a mixture of cool water and shampoo, give a very thorough rinse with cold water and then soak them for about five minutes in a mixuture of cool water and conditioner and also thoroughly rinse afterward with cold water before putting them on a hanger and allowing them to drip dry for 12 to 24 hours. I also use a loop bristle brush that I got from Sally Beauty Supply that is specifically for wigs that will let go of a tangle when it comes across one. It helps to not pull hairs from the actual wig itself.
I love and have loved many dolls.
