Now that's exciting! I'm very happy with my current Sanhui doll. I also had a TPE doll from a manufacturer that also used ball-joint skeletons, and I so badly wished the best of both worlds could come together, and it's cool that we can get a ball-joint skeleton in a silicone doll. I'm legit looking forward to where Sanhui goes with this.

This is awesome, though it complicates my decision... I'd love to know what is going to be available with this tech and when... I am on the fence for a 6YE, but really would prefer silicone. A Sanhui 168 with these bones...

I don't really want to wait, would be great if Sanhui previewed what's expected this year.

I took a few range of motion pics of Alicia. She is new as of January 2018. Sanhui 145

You can feel the ball joint range of motion reach its limit. Thump.

She can't lean her head back. I wonder if the ball joint lug is welded wrong?

Not a range of motion shot but I liked it so I decided to add it anyway.

Nice. First time I see that. The side bend is useful for most feminine poses - knees and pelvis in uneven height, and shoulder line tilted to opposite.
I have faked it with arch, twist and camera angle, but this is much better!
Don't know if my 145 from 10/2017 can do it, still pussyfooting.

Hahhah. Just put her to mobility trials, and yes, SHE CAN MOVE! The side bend really is there. Sorry everyone for harping about the matter, just hopeless in mechanics. I'll get my coat.

And as a quick update, the skeleton is available on the 118 cm, 145 cm, and all doll sizes above! Here is a picture of the legs bent upward. Happy Monday!

P.S. And thanks for the pics Metricnut, I neve tire of seeing Alicia in any pose :)

Yes my 145 bends sideways halfway up the back , she's from 2016

They appear to have changed the vagina design from my 145 and 165

I will be watching Ginevra's thread for new photos with her saucy hips pitched in a feminine manner!

What are the specific advantages of ball joints? Besides the obvious mobility, are they particularly durable?

This is fantastic news! It's also kinda bad, because this is one reason I was using to wait on ordering another Sanhui doll. 8O

No, I must be disciplined, and at least make some room first. Also, a bit of extra cash to offset the purchase would be welcome.

Really nice. I love my Sanhui 168, and she’d be even better with a ball joint design like this.

Keep it up! Sanhui dolls just get better all the time. :multi:

I'd be interested in hearing from owners of ball joint skeleton dolls about longevity as well.

Mechanically speaking a ball joint has a greater range of motion. Consider the difference between a joystick and a fixed lever. The joystick has a nearly 360 degree range of motion, while a fixed lever can only move 180 degrees. Of course, many hinged designs that I've seen compensate for this by using adjacent hinges or swivels to mimic natural movement.

I can't speak to the durability, as I do not own a doll yet (in process of ordering 168 Sanhui w/ Severine). However, a hinge design has more components, which become potential points of failure. Ultimately, I would imagine a well built hinged design is superior to a poorly implemented ball joint.
