Uploading photos

Post by DollLyfe »

I uploaded my first photo a couple days ago from an Android phone. The photo appears sideways, however when I click on it, it appears correct. I want to do an introductory thread for my new doll but I don't want to flood it with sideways photos. Can anyone help?

I think the problem is the image IS the sideways format, and contains metadata to have it rendered rotated, and the scaling function on the board that renders the image doesnt process the metadata.

I think the only real way to get this working, is to load the picture into a paint program, rotate it and then save in the correct orientation.

It sounds like when back in the early 2000's when I would have to upload pictures to my computer first. This is the first forum that I've posted pictures on in many years. I would've thought that the technology would work with it. Maybe I'll take a picture sideways and try that, lol. Thanks for the quick responses.

Somewhere on TDF is an extensive thread about this. The problem is that not all cameras and software use and interpret metadata on orientation the same.

I take all photos on horizontal/landscape and then crop the sides if needed. If you do the cropping on the phone, just check that the smartphone's photo editor won't ruin the quality like some older Androids did.

Speaking of metadata, I'm not sure if the forum automatically purges EXIF metadata on upload, but be sure you don't have GPS logging tagged in your photos.

No, you have to do that yourself. I guess that most don't mind or even like the basic EXIF data, but not the GPS data. It's easy to remove them, no need for specific tools, on Windows explorer.exe can do this. Also most cameras can be set to not record them.
