Starting a new Youtube channel and I got some questions

Post by donoghu »

Hey everyone!

As some might have noticed, while I'm quite new to the forum (only been here for like 3 weeks or less), I have been relatively active.
I'm still waiting for my first doll (arriving coming tomorrow) and I'm still a "noob" in the world of Real Size Dolls.

Still what I have experienced in the last couple of weeks, from taking the decision (and risks) of buying my first real size doll, to the fact that it's a lot more complex than meets the eyes to also the internal conflict in the minds of new or even pro-owners, I though that there's a lot to talk about even toward people who doesn't have an immediate interest in RS dolls.

The first thing that I, as a new (upcoming) owner noticed is how secrecy seems to still be so important with RS dolls. It reminds me (kinda) of the time when geeks or nerds (take your pick on the term) were only able to discuss about their passion about anime, D&D, video games, hardware or any kind of "you're socially awkward if you own and like it" of stuff. Today, geeks and nerds are now seen as the "cool kids" because they have cool shit that nobody else is able to have. The biggest reason for that huge 180 degrees change can be explained in 1 word: Exposure. Exposure of big events that shows how many thousands of people like something makes those who, previously, laugh about it reconsider. Just think of e-Sports with millions of viewers watching a match not even in the finals. That changed all the game and, now, even if people might still not be interested in it as participants, they agree that it's "okay".

This is why I'm looking and planning on starting a YouTube channel that focus on RS Dolls and, unlike other channels, I'm planning videos that oversee the social aspect of it and not just the technical or artistic aspect of it. Making people at least understand and accept that it's a thing is one of the main objective of the channel.

Using humor, example and explanation of things that we all have though and, for some, still think about. Covering the aspect of how to accept that you got a doll yourself and how to make others accept it. Making people laugh about how awkward it is. Making people realize how stupid their grudge against a piece of rubber has been over some news report a few years back.

I don't plan on exposing any people on this forum without their full consent, but I would like to know the position of the forum regarding the existence such a channel. Since I'll be filming myself which mean exposing my identity in the videos, will this be against the forum's rules if I was to share some videos here, once uploaded?

Of course, if possible, I would like to monetize my channel which could support me uploading more videos and allowing me to push even further in the RS Doll world by having a bigger budget, better contacts, etc. Maybe, at one point, having a kind of video reviews of products in the RS Doll market. If the channel does become popular, I do intent of following through and adjusting in consequences.

This is still a In-The-Making-Project, but the channel has already been created.
It's called Real Size Dolls Trivia.
I think it's a good name as it can be nicknamed RSDT which doesn't represent anything "bad". Trivia aren't just "facts", but more things surrounding the subject such as how people sees something or even rumors.

I would also like to know if I could display or speak about the forum in a more direct way when needed.
While I might get the permission from a poster when I directly ask him or her, I still need the permission of the forum administration when it comes to displaying a page or something related to it.

For the channel, I do plan on following some specific rules such as, of course, not displaying filmed sex-related action or usage of the product. Maybe some drawings and sketches when it's absolutely needed, but I want to avoid any kind of issues with YouTube or the viewers so there won't be any kind of real fleshy bits shown, unless it part of a play/humor thing such as having a video displaying a scene where a parent or a son enter a room and there's someone with a RS doll in the bed. (Mostly, it would like most of those Teen-Rated movies you see. Sheets hiding most of the body and all.)

As for the quality of the channel's videos, that's another matter on itself. I'm not equipped with high grade recording systems and I'm still getting waiting for some hardware from different sources (Amazon, Ebay (China), etc.) I'll plan to make due with what I'll have in hand so if the video are crappy in quality, it will affect the viewer reaction toward not just the quality, but also the stuff shown. Early on, I doubt I'll be able to have HD 1024p resolution videos. Hell, that might take me >20 hours uploading 1 video with such high quality and as I'm working alone (for now) on the project and making it a 1-man show, that much is impossible to manage.

Still, I want to know the position about the forum administration before exposing the forum more than just by commenting on it.

=EDIT=

Here's a link to the channel for anyone interested. YouTube Link
It's still void of any videos (and will be as such for maybe 1-2 weeks), but you can get an idea of the visual design I'm going for.

If the forum is okay with me posting videos updates on the forum, I'll open a topic specifically for the channel in the proper sub-forum.

I cant talk for the whole forum, but in my personal opinion I like your idea. I think bringing some humor would be crucial to break the ice for some people. I know for some this is such a taboo, in my personal opinion I have never think having a doll its anything out of this world, and I have never feel ashamed of it, or weird. But, I know some people think very different than me.

If I can help you with anything feel free to PM me, I'm not an expert by all means I'm pretty new here compared to others, but I own a doll and I think you are really up to something here. Good luck!

Thanks gunsmithcat.

For now, I'm already working on a 4th script for a 4th video.
At some point, I might have to ask some people for assistance such as information about the difference between certain types of TPE or silicone as well as factory. Especially if I want to avoid making mistake and speaking out of my hat.

I already got some PM about reviews people would want to share with me for the channel.
I got to warn that, for now, I keep it at the social side, but at some time in the future I'll start adding actual reviews.

If you allow me the analogy: First, let's start with a small walk... Later, let's run a triathlon.
So first, let's make people aware of what the channel is about as well as how "not so strange" the dolls can be.
Of course, I'll have to cover the "wacky" insane side as well and put my own line on the ground by stating what's weird or not for me. I'll have to put my opinion on the current trends (such as the infamous "child pornography" issues with young looking dolls.)

That's why I gained this interest in this subject. It's something quite present with already a lot of stuff about it... but it's hidden deep in those area where light rarely shine. I got quite some work ahead of me about it.
