Bosco Inflatable Driver (latex doll from 1910!) & Safe-T-Man

Post by Aerial »

Have you ever heard of 'Safe-T-Man'?

He was not a love doll, but a male inflatable "bodyguard dummy" (no joke!) with realistic latex face and hands. (His body is of PVC.) Apparently he has no lower part of the body, but button-on legs could be bought separately. On normal sex doll or fetish sites I yet found no references to him although he seems to be pretty famous elsewhere. The manufacturer of Safe-T-Man was "FunFlatable Products Company, Inc.", but nowadays he is not made anymore.

Here you can read more: http://www.gusworld.com.au/rotd/9610/safe.htm
Also on Google I found plenty of entries mentioning him.

Bosco's Collapsible Rubber Driver

Even stranger is that a similar inflatable man was invented already in 1910, that is to say, to deter car thieves! The ad for this guy made by BOSCO. Inc. Akron, Ohio claimed: "Locks may be picked or jimmied. Cars may be stolen in spite of them. But no thief ever attempted to steal a car with a man at the wheel. Bosco's Collapsible Rubber Driver is so lifelike and terrifying, that nobody a foot away can tell it isn't a real, live man. When Not in use, this marvelous device is simply deflated and put under the seat. Easily inflated with your hand- or automatic pump. Price $15"

Unfortunately no photo (not to say an eh living specimen) has survived to verify what this marvel actually looked like. 15$ was a fortune in 1910, but this was upon a time when automobiles in general were considered luxury goods anyway. Historically most important is that this was the world first documented life size (and male!) inflatable latex doll ever made as a commercial product.

Thanks! Nice to know that in the "old days" there were rubber men for sale. This is the sort of thing I am often looking for online (not vintage, mind you).
