WM neck bolt?

Post by JCnine »

So I just received my first doll today :multi: !!! WM 140 D-cup!
Can anyone tell me how do you tell when the head is screwed down far enough? Is there a point where it will kind of snap into place? I notice where I have it now looks good and it doesn't rotate on its own (I have to apply some force to move it). Just wondering if it was a matter of preference or if there is a spot where it is designed to "set" into place. Thanks for any answers!

When you can't screw it on any further, that's about it. That's when it's far enough. Although her head may not be facing straight forward when it's screwed on to the limit. You can fix this by placing a very small piece of rolled up paper inside her neck hole, under the neck bolt. It will help you to adjust her head easier, so that she can face forward and not have her head loose. I hope you understand how I mean.

My solution to the neck bolt

the metal washer allows only the bolt through and rests on the neck tube. 2 rubber washers allow for the head to move without feeling loose.

You can use an M16 lock washer.

The metal washer and rubber washer combo works well, I'm doing it for all my gals as you get the head seated better, without the washers it's a bit hit and miss, either too tight or too loose, also I find it helps to seat the threaded bolt into the neck tube first and get it tight with a pair of pliers and then gently screw the head down, you can also wrap a little plumbers tape on the threads first if you have some. Don't over tighten, once the head is screwed down and feels firm then your probably there. Also it helps to powder the top of the neck first so the 'skin' on the head doesn't grip the neck too much as you screw it down.

I just fashioned a washer out of some of the Styrofoam packing material my doll came with. Works great with just the right about of sponginess and give.

Yup, I took this advice from day one and it works great! Everything still looks normal as the head screws down plenty so there is definitely no gap there to worry about. It also makes it so the head is more "poseable". Without this, it the head seemed to screw on very easily and then you would hit that locking point where you couldn't turn the head anymore, and if you reversed the head would spin freely again. The rubber washer makes it so that it holds but isn't overly tight. I also found a little bit of thread tape around the neck bolt will also help the head from spinning freely as well.

Great idea with the metal washer + rubber washer!

Where do you guys get the rubber washer?
Are we talking about the washers sometimes referred to as neoprene washers?

I guess I could create my own. But I'd rather have ready-made ones, so I don't cut the TPE with some jagged home-made stuff.

I live in Sweden, so I'm sure they're called something completely different here. Did a search for the Swedish translation of rubber washer, and didn't get any hits.

Or, if you want the luxus version you can use a "Indigo Individual Magnetic M16 Connector". The two parts are connected by magnetic powers. So you can take off her head, without unscrewing it. Ideal if you have more than one doll and like to switch their heads. But also nice, if you just want to remove the head to switch the clothes of your doll.
