Buying doll from eBay

Post by S_meister »

Hello, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking at this doll: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/231709904387 I have browsed through the forum and various topics as far as TPE vs Silicone and clean up. I'm a little confused on a few things regarding this doll, the description says that she's medical grade silicone, however, when I looked at websites that offer her, they mention TPE. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on this one. I really like the way she looks and everything. I'm just not sure exactly what I'll be getting myself into.

Plain and simple, I would never take a chance on an ebay doll. *unless a TDF approved manufacturer/vendor has confirmed that they are that ebay store.

(The member's feedback score is a little too low for me personally as well.)

Since you're now in TDF. I suggest getting a copy of the photos from that listing and starting a thread to accurately identify the doll, email/pm the TDF approved manufacturers/vendors if they have this "specific doll" available.

*don't forget TDF members can get members discount from the manufacturers/vendors here. :)

/g'day.

It looks that it's a WM Doll according to the description on this site: http://m.aliexpress.com/item-desc/32482885417.html I will contact them and see if this is theirs. I didn't find her on their website though, but they only have 15 models featured. Thank you!

Hey! That's my sister! I think she's been hijacked on flight WM163#15
Image
http://bbs.wmdoll.cn/forum.php?mod=view ... 4&tid=2858
and is having to offer "services" to secure her escape. Poor girl.

With sellers on ebay you may or may not get the doll you see in the photos. My man's been tracking down ladies that look like us but aren't us . . . He wrote to one ebay seller, not that one, asking what faces they could supply:
Thanks for your letter .we can make any face doll ,but the
price will get more higer .it will over 2000$ .my means is we can make any
face in the world ,is OK?This is part of private custom
There's discussion on the forum of an ebay doll where the makers of the poor girl haven't got her skeleton properly centred in the mould.

Here on TDF Eric at YourDoll often gives good discounts to TDF members and he has a special relationship with WM - and BeautifulDolls too do special things as well.

So please do let us have photos of where flight WM163#15 lands next and adds to the postcards she sends as she travels around the world http://www.dollforum.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=66764

Love and kisses

yup. only differently spec'd from the wmdolls site photos.

tan skin. green eyes. different wig.

Just check out all the wmdolls vendors sites here and see which is the best one you can get it from.

At least you know you'll actually get this specific doll w/o question. :)

I was looking to buy a doll from ebay too, but received some very good advice to buy a doll from verified vendors here on TDF. I did buy a doll Yourdoll and she should be here soon!

I recommend only purchasing from TDF approved vendors. There are so many from which to choose these days that there is no reason to take a risk on an outside vendor.

Alright, so a lot has happened over the past several days. I saw good reviews from Annie's Dollhouse which are similar to WM dolls and was able to talk them down to an amazing price. Lightning fast shipping, got the doll today. I'm overall pretty happy with my decision but I did end up already staining her :/ I put on a black blouse after a couple of times of washing it yesterday and she wore it for several hours. Once I took it off, I almost had a heart attack from the black stains. Good thing is that the underwear, nor the stockings did any staining. I used the included stain remover which smelled like toothpaste but that didn't do anything. I quickly started looking all over the forum and came to the conclusion that they'll fade in a couple of months from everything I read. Even tried the mineral spirits paint remover. Didn't damage anything but didn't do anything either. They're not horribly bad, just look like shadows. I like the whole goth look but I'm guessing I'm gonna be sticking to whites and light pinks now ;)
She also has some indentations, very light, from sheets, etc, those will fade over time too?

The stains disappeared over night! I guess TPE is a self cleaning material.

Yes. Color will disperse thoughout the TPE material over time. So only a slight stain should disappear quickly. A major stain may take much longer to disperse.

HI!

I think you've struck lucky!

I sent an email about quality of dolls to Annies Doll House about a range of dolls that I wasn't sure about . . . . and they replied that the mould for the doll "had deteriorated" so they weren't selling it any more . .. .

So I think they are on course to be selling WM dolls without risk of their origin being anywhere else.

Your lady is particularly loavely and look forward to seeing more pics

Best wishes

I changed the wig to the original one. The make up was starting to fade so I reapplied. She is truly a work of art!

So I noticed that a wire got out of her pinky finger and I tried to fix it with nail glue which I guess is devastating to TPE and the entire bottom of her finger tip melted away. Is there any possible way to repair this? Right now I put a bandaid over it.

OUCH!

I'm so very sorry to read of her problems. One has to be quite careful with fingers with strong wires in soft material.

That face is truly wonderful! But I've no idea whether she's a WM or not. The dolls that WM and OR don't make are said to have softer TPE formulation, so this injury might be a warning to be gentle with her.

From my experience the only way of repairing an injury like this is to get a spare piece of TPE and melt it into the wound. Using a 6 volt portable battery soldering iron on 4.8 volts by using NiMH batteries one has a tool of just the right temperature to melt TPE into a wound and to sculpt it well. Perhaps you might persuade Annies Doll House to send you either a spare insert as source of TPE or a square of TPE of the right colour.

Best wishes

Harem
