Ewood's magical stain remover for TPE-dolls

Post by ewood »

Well, here is my review on the stain remover I just came out with. As I told you guys on my doll's review, I messed up her skin with black underwear. But olde granny's Natron does the trick!

Here is how you do it:
1. Get backing soda, lots of it. What also works fine is this Natron for gastric problems. It's just as well.
2. Put it in a bowl, add some warm water, just a tea-spoon full.
3. stirr until it's a thick mass, creme or whatever you wanna call it.
4. Put it on the stain.
5. wait. It gets lighter all the time, but it may take a long period of time. I have only had time for a few hours yesterday and didn't take any pics at first, but here are some I made today. I guess it will also take (like WMdolls remover) about 2-3 days (!) until it's gone. I will post more pics later.

And most importat thing of all:

NEVER use Ethanol to remove stains! It dries out the skin, oil from tpe is drained out and will make her age MUCH faster!!!!

I think baking soda mixed with water was used as a cleaning substance in the olden times, like toothbrush and hand wash - so makes some kinda sense I suspect. Isn´t it a base?

Google also says you can use cornstarch + baking soda as a deodorant. So I guess if you were unlucky and they sent you a TPE doll that struggles with armpit sweat and body odour you can kill two birds with one stone when powdering her :)

Wonder have your tried "Paint thinner"? It worked for me, not sure for TPE material. I believe I have mentioned about "Paint thinner" for stain remover on silicone so many times in other threads but never heard any feedback from people.

There are a number of different products dubbed "paint thinner", mineral spirits being one of them.
Based on how TPE reacts to xylene, I'd say to use it ONLY if the stain is so severe that you can tolerate a slight roughening of the surface in order to completely remove the stain.
It appears that one of the doll companies is offering some sort of stain remover that causes no harm to TPE, but details are sketchy (typical) at the moment.

This appears to be a good method. There's considerable literature on baking soda uses.

As I said the process is slow. After 8 h today I will now put her back in her bed. Just before that I glued the asshile because of the cut I posted a few days ago. After all the doll has to handled with extrem caution, and you can't go too hard on her. As I didn't buy her to cuddle, we will see how long she will last.

Thanks, ewood. This seems like an inexpensive and probably safe way to remove stains on TPE. Is it hard to remove the baking soda after the treatment is done?

Not hard to remove at all. I cleaned her with a wet towel.

It's possible that the solution from WM will penetrate further into the TPE and remove deeper stains.

WM has posted that the shipping cost is the same for up to four containers.

The only stains my Sarah has are from wig straps. Monday, I plan to try some oxy clean in order to answer that question.

ewood , thanks for posting this , I do hope it works , it would be nice if you can post pictures from every two or more hours to show any differences in lightening of any stains . also what about some vinegar ? of course it will cause a foaming action so be careful but I would think that also would be safe on tpe material ( but I as with other people and some suggestions don't know for sure .
If your remedy does work to remove stains it would be a lot cheaper and readily available product tpe dioll owners could use!
PLEASE KEEP US ALL INFORMED ! :D
