Standing up in high heels!
Standing up in high heels!
1) Replace her two front "M6 x 15mm" toe bolts in each foot with "M6 x 30mm" (longer) toe bolts.
2) Cut/drill two ~ 33mm holes into the shoes so that the doll's weight "catches" on the shoes itself, and is transferred from the doll, to the bolts, to the core of the toe section of the shoe, instead of being transmitted via the TPE skin into the front of the shoes, causing the toes to "fisheye" and distort out of the front of the shoes and cause instability and preventing the doll from standing up.
I actually started out with a totally different concept, called "stilts", in which the doll would stand on three taller "extension" bolts per foot, which replaced the three default "M6 x 15mm" bolts. But during the development of the concept - and mistakes - serendipity led to an even better solution, which is the one described above. Currently, she's standing on one shoe of each type: a "stilt" concept on her right foot, and a "catch" concept on her left foot.
In getting the "stilt" concept to work (right foot), I hollowed out the entire toe section of the shoe (it was all styrofoam), so all the doll's weight is on the two front extension bolts (and the heels of the shoes contain a metal rod so that takes care of the back).
The first four photos show obsolete concepts. The 5th photo "standing bolts concept 5" shows the current result:
* In the left foot, the two extension bolts don't touch the floor at all, and they sit against the shoe itself, "catching" on the two holes I dug into the shoe to fit the bolts; the bottom of the shoe takes all the weight at the front of the foot: this is the final concept I was going for and plan to repeat on other pairs of platform heels.
* In the right foot, the two extension bolts do touch the floor, and carry all the weight of the front of the foot, so there's not much weight carried by the front of the shoe itself - the entire front of the shoe was hollowed out, and I won't do it this way again next time. This was previous concept which I now consider obsolete.
It's almost like a whole new doll! She's 5" taller! Slinkier! Sexier! Looking forward to modifying her 2nd pair of platform stilettos some day soon...

Re: Standing up in high heels!
It looks to be a great solution for photo taking and general stability (I still don’t think it’s a great idea for long term storage or daily use). Moreover, I shudder at drilling out a nice set of heels to make this work.
Kudos to your efforts! But my gurls, and their love for pretty heels, will remain to be enjoyed while seated (or in bed )

Re: Standing up in high heels!
Maybe the weight of the doll, type of shoes, and stockings on the feet enable some dolls to stand without modification? Maybe the shoes I bought (i have only this one pair) are not sturdy enough, and I haven't tried to stand her with stockings - I want to see her toenails ...I think my Nikki weighs 72.75 lbs ...

No modification for the shoes and replacing the front toe bolts either. I haven't tried really tall heels yet but the work on at least one of her pairs of heels.
