Hi luckyleaf! I purchased the doll in January 2016, it is not using the old silicone blend. I believe she is the same model as Miah. Does Miah have similar seam lines?

Miah has a 2015 body and hasn't suchlike visible seams. They're barely to be seen. You can only see them if you take a precise look. That's why I guess you have the 2016 body.

Much research and planning has gone into the current project: using real human hair, rooting into Fei's head using a specialized knitting needle. I will be making a video of this process for my youtube channel, so far it's coming along great!

I've been researching hair punching techniques from the special effects industry for a while, spoken with mexdl who was working on doing the same with one of his DS dolls, and finally mustered up the courage to start poking Fei's head with a needle, many, many times. Human hair (long and blonde especially) isn't cheap, so I waited until ebay had a sale and bought a bunch of hair extension kits. Here's a quick shot of my hair rooting setup (bowl with towel for face protection and ergonomics), and you can see I have a nice "skullet" coming along!

Looks good so far, although in that picture I can't tell if you started at the front of her head or the back!

I started in the back. While my skills are improving as I go, it's a very slow process. About 1 inch of hair implanting for every 5 hours, and then my hands need a break. I could probably move at a quicker pace and implant more hairs but then it would risk the "barbie hair" effect. I'm currently using a 6 barb needle which usually grabs 2 hairs. When I get to the front, I'll be switching to a 1 barb needle, to only implant fine hairs one at a time.

Lots of skill learned with techniques for hair rooting, I finally have a quick way of achieving realistic results. Unfortunately it took a long time to figure out the best practices, and broke many needles along the way. Nearly finished and just about to do the finishing touches on the hairline, SUPER pleased with the results so far. She has a five-head right now, soon to be a forehead.

The feeling of human hair and ability to customize the hairstyle is just what I always wanted in a doll. Full video tutorial when I wrap up the project.

I used to have a DS145 and got some really good quality glass eyes online. I think I ordered 24mm half round. There are a lot of great colors out there you can get for around $15/set.
