Well this is one depressing topic. I wonder how the news would've reacted if the doll wasn't home made? The article seemed to be emphasizing the doll instead of the poor man that died...
Even with my dolls, I can only see a future where I am surrounded by my family and loved ones on a deathbed where I feel truly relieved and happy to let go.
I see these dolls as a temporary thing in my life because I'm no Egyptian pharaoh; when I'm gone, these plastic things are staying here for someone else to grope- or get trashed. IMO the dolls are nice, but they can only simulate human contact not fully replicate it.

I agree. We would have never heard about this if a doll wasn't involved. I mean, no one cared about the poor guy when he was alive and it's only because he had a doll that it becomes news worthy. That's a sad commentary on human priorities when the idea of a guy having a doll is made out to be a bigger tragedy than a person dying alone and unloved.
But on the bright side, perhaps his doll kept him from feeling lonely and unloved. That's the part that the doll haters and detractors will never understand.
