I once did portraits and wedding photography. Window light if not harsh, is some of the best light you can use. Otherwise, bounce light from a DSLR off the ceiling(or wall) mimics some window light as well. I had soft boxes and halos to put the lights in and it made for a very soft effect but, light modifiers and studio strobes are not cheap. It depends on how far you want to go. An example of using one light source in a light box and a white reflector can yield some great pictures.

Smartphone can definitely take great pictures, the problem is their limitations with controlled and dealing with external lighting. My advice, and this is just my advice, find an inexpensive DSLR, 18-55mm lens, a 50mm f/1.8 and practice shooting. Thats how I started, once you get the basics down, you learn what works, how to make the light and adjustments work for you.

Nice to meet you also ryu! I love that purple dress on her! My favorite photos are the ones of her laying on the chair. :) As for the camera issues I can relate! I had to buy a camera tripod just to get semi decent pictures.
thank you for the advice
The focus of this photo was bad. That's too bad

Yeah, it’s difficult to work out what’s best for photos sometimes! Smart phones these days have quite good cameras compared to small digital cameras. The only problem is controlling the light settings.
At first I used a point and click digital camera but realised there were many limitations with that early on! So, I took the plunge and got a Nikon D3300! However, even that has limitations with its 18-55 VR lens! When I looked at getting another lens it was twice as much as I’d paid for the camera in the first place!
The previous smartphone photo was beautiful, but this time it is a failure.

Thank you for the address of the lighting

I feel I need DSLR.

The two pictures are successful on smartphones.

Thank you
Sometimes I can make a successful photo.

This photo is the last 100 yen clothes.
I can shoot her face beautifully if you lighten the lighting.
But her blonde hair has turned white.
Lighting is difficult.

Nice :) Yea I have the same issue with my camera it's a cheap one and whites/very light colors get overly brightened in the highlight areas sometimes depending on how close I am to the subject and how far away the light source is also.

Shooting is difficult because the color is lost by lighting.
The first piece is a photo as it is,
The second piece is a photo that I corrected with Photoshop.

That is a problem when there is a significant contrast in light and shade in the subject matter. Even my camera has a job correcting the light balance when I take a photo of my black Ashaki with one of my other girls! She either comes out too dark or my other lady has areas that are too bright and lose definition!

One area of TDF you might like to have a browse in is the Photo Contest Forum viewforum.php?f=119

There’s five challenges each month with different themes and I’ve won three in a row now!

You can view some superb photos there and get some ideas!

I like a bright-colored blonde girl.
However, brunet girls have a higher percentage of successful photographs.

I am watching the Photo Challenge every month.
I like Category C very much.
There are a lot of puppet photography experts in Photo Challenge.
I would like to participate if the photograph improves.

Thank you
I do not want to fix it with Photoshop as much as possible.
But I can not shoot the same pose again.
It may only improve the performance of the lighting and the camera.
