Re: The diy skeleton problem

I'm not sure hydraulics is the way to go. Materials will just wear and tear and then liquid will create a mess. Plus that would require pumps and those are quite loud (unless I misunderstood your proposal) If we're going all in, then electroactive polymers seems better way to go. Granted they are cu...

Heh, true.
Honestly, wouldn't mind looking at RealDoll skeletons.
Interesting how complex those are and how their joints are designed.

Re: The diy skeleton problem

All are fair points. As for joints, I don't think ball joints are absolutely necessary. It would be perfect if we could make relatively stiff ball joints that would last for very long time, of course, but I think combined joints (not sure what proper term in english is for that) would be good enough...

Re: The diy skeleton problem

Doll skeleton tubing is centered in the foam and rubber. A human skeleton design has the bones too close to the surface. The rubber will tear. In other topic I talked about using firmer underlayer (to simulate muscle tonus). Because the fact that soft dolls are squishy (especially from softer mater...

Re: The weight problem

doesn't mean you'll heft a person-shaped thing around well, especially when it's delicate ! I have carried passed out (quite heavier) people before, I imagine doll would be somewhat similar, but you raised a good point. Fragility of TPE (especially softer one) is something to look for I guess, I co...

Re: The weight problem

I'm finally developing some tricks and techniques for moving my 68 pound Jessica. I wish she weighed 1/2 what she does. Tayu may have to be my next brand, but at over $3000 before delivery... maybe not. 68lbs doesn't seem like much. Are dolls uncomfortable to carry around or is she just too heavy f...

Re: The diy skeleton problem

Why people do not base skeletons around, y'know, human skeleton? Since the end goal is doll that feels as realistic as possible, skeleton as realistic as possible is something such doll would benefit from. Granted some aspects would be different, like longer segments for spine or different jaw desig...

Re: Soft outer layer with firmer underlayer?

What you want is a thin but firmer outer layer and a soft inner layer. The harder material is better to reproduce textures and surface detail. You just need to make it thin enough so it won't affect overall softness. Doll manufacturers just pour TPE/silicone into a mold with a skeleton inside, let ...

Re: The weight problem

Yeah, I'm sort of intimidated by the 100lb weight of the TPE male doll I'm looking at, given I'm a fairly slight 5'4" woman but, he's mostly going to live on my bed. Maybe it will make me fitter, haha! I wonder if in future there might be dolls made specifically for women that weigh less - wha...

Soft outer layer with firmer underlayer?

Was looking up some dolls and many had videos showing them. I noticed one thing- while breasts behave natural and ass behave almost natural (a bit too jiggly), other body parts behave very unrealistic, mainly torso and thighs. I suspect it's because all "soft tissue" is made from the same ...
