Re: Xylene what I need for surgery?

It's a bit tricky to use xylene. Pure xylene doesn't necessarily bond TPE surfaces very well and very thin TPE "filler" mix would work better. But the thicker the mix the worse it bonds. When I used xylene for repairs I used to treat surfaces to be bonded with pure xylene and then added a ...

Re: My fist try at Repairing

I've melted TPE on a laboratory (temp controlled) hot plate in a Pyrex beaker. At only 1 inch of depth the bottom got thin but the top was still solid. Stirring would liquify it, but the stirring stick became TPE coated and the top solidified again fairly quickly. It seems like it needs to be heate...

Re: My fist try at Repairing

Regarding filling TPE cavities I was wondering if piece of TPE could be melted in a pot and then poured into the cavity while hot and flowy? Idea is that hot and melted TPE would also melt host TPE and bond to it and it would also be safer than using solvents. But I suppose it wouldn't work and melt...

Re: Goose neck to hinged neck?

In Ami's case the rod is under a bit of pressure from the head which is screwed on. I also placed some nuts over the rod, which serve to hold it central in the top boss at least. Ami's head still flops to a degree so it's a work around at best but it's much better than it was. Someone suggested fil...

Re: Goose neck to hinged neck?

Hi Pumpster, I repaired Ami's neck with an aluminium rod 4mmø. I had to drill the top boss, which wasn't easy. and then inserted the rod down the hole. It did help, she can hold a pose now, but if you want to really change her position, you have to really bend the rod. Maybe a softer one would have...

Goose neck to hinged neck?

I was just wondering if anyone has done something like this before? Goose neck of my doll is on it's way out and I suppose it's just a matter of time before she needs a neck brace. I suppose I'd need to make new hinged neck myself and that might be possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XAgBgq1y...

Re: Creaky joints

Mine's got creaky joints too. I think it's probably fairly normal. You're probably imagining the noise to be a lot louder than it really is and unless you've literally got paper-thin walls (and can therefore also hear everything your neighbours are up to) they aren't going to hear a thing. Did you ...

Re: Creaky joints

I don't know how long it would take but hip joint creaking doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. I decided to try surgery experiment and thought about tightening her wrist joint as her hand is becoming a bit too floppy. Perhaps that would be easy enough place to start. I had brand new box cut...

Re: Creaky joints

Baby oil is relatively thick. If I had to try something, I would use WD40, which is really thin and good for very narrow penetration. However, I don't know how it reacts with TPE over time. My doll is also creaky as hell in her neck part. Really annoying... Indeed, loud creaky noises make my teeth ...

Re: Creaky joints

My first doll had me exclaiming Holy sh.t! I was not expecting that degree of tightness and getting used to it took a while Other owners choose dolls that have joint tightness options while others work their dolls for months with varying results There are also those whose dolls loosen up so dramati...

Re: Creaky joints

Do many dolls (or doll owners) suffer of this same problem? I don't think this is normal with stiff joints. I was just thinking that because it was cheap doll it has it's "features" like this.

Re: Creaky joints

Yep, didn't seem to work. With her laying on the bed I moved her leg up and down to try work the oil into the joint but creaking didn't reduce one bit. I injected few milliliters only and afterwards squeezed as much of it out as I could. I suppose I'll just keep working noisy joints and hopefully th...

Creaky joints

Emmie's hip joints are very creaky when I'm moving her legs back and forth. Sound is so awful that I'm afraid it disturbs my neighbors so I really want to make the sound go away. I bought syringe with a needle and attempted to inject some baby oil (she's TPE) in there in hopes that it would reach th...

Re: Had a go at Ami's limp gooseneck.

If/when Emmie's gooseneck turns floppy I was thinking about replacing it with some kind of diy hinged neck.

Compared to a bit tedious process in this video I would just cut the neck completely open down to the base where gooseneck is attached.

Hmmm yes maybe if enough alcohol is poured in it'll absorb the water and with air pump makes it evaporate more quickly.
