How do you upload photos in full editor and not have them be side ways

I had this problem with pictures from my phone. Even though they was ok on the computer when I uploaded them they got sideways in the inline view.

Later I found that opening them in paint and then just save them solved this problem (if they are sideways in paint too you need to rotate them before saving). That worked. I assume paint embedded some additional metadata that made the orientation ok in the forum.
