Psychiatrist says doll owners are mentally ill
Re: Psychiatrist says doll owners are mentally ill
Anyhoo I do not believe that Agalmatophilia has anything to do with the modern doll owner or as the person who wrote the article cited above and another article claims that this hobby is mostly made up of lonely old men. Wrong. My guy is in his 30's and I am sure there are plenty of other younger men and women who are doll owners as well. I was intrigued to learn of the origins of love dolls or at least how they started to become mass produced mainly for sailors (dame de voyage)and in some cultures it was normal for a man to have a doll then give it up when he got married.
here is a little bit of my history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_doll
The fact is that men have been screwing just about anything they can for millennia and I really don't think it takes any real scholarly study to understand the reasons why people would like to have one of us to love and hold. The list is ever expanding.

here is an interesting analysis and survey. Well I am off to bed now waiting for 4bidden to finally move in. At least I have the tablet and can chat, hehe...

Re: Psychiatrist says doll owners are mentally ill
I agree with Karpos, though, that this could be seen as a defense for the use of dolls in therapy and doesn't right out condemn your basic doll owner (if that exists).
People will always point at others and go, "ewwwww weeeeeird!" when they don't understand something. It's all just stuff anyway, right? And we all loooooove our stuff!
I could see how someone that is not able to be turned on by a living person but then could be by a doll might seem to have a psychosis or something akin to necrophilia. Although, I happen to agree with a certain rich-folks club (not naming any names) that psychiatry may just be a psuedoscience. Most of the medical practice today seems to be inescapably tied to pharmaceutical sales and is therefor not trustworthy.

" In contrast UCSF forensic psychologist and sex offender expert, Dr. Douglas
Tucker, believes intercourse with a love doll does not signal anything particularly wrong
or unhealthy, adding that he would hesitate to label men who enjoy sex with these dolls
as pathological (Laslocky, 2005)."
for me, it's all said and done !

Re: Psychiatrist says doll owners are mentally ill
What is it called when a man endures endless nagging, endless confrontations, monthly mood swings, sexually transmitted diseases only to end up giving away half your wealth because of " feelings of growing apart"? Oh that's right NORMAL!!
Psychiatry only deal with perceived "norms" and how things fall within 1or2 standard deviations. It is good to see their pseudo-science is working so diligently to explain other's happiness in life by tagging it with a derogatory name and saying how it negatively affect those around them.
Mmmm, sounds like an idea for a "T"-shirt.. " I AM COMFORTABLE SHARING AGALMATOPHILIA WITH MY DOLL".

Two parts of the article that annoy me include:
Since the discussion is focused on silicone doll use, this statement states that silicone doll use is abnormal. I disagree with that idea.Said Dr Wang: "I've seen patients with other forms of paraphilia (abnormal sexual behaviour)...
This makes an unfounded, unjustifiable statement."People who engage in such behaviour tend to like intimacy, sexual arousal or companionship without other emotions involved... They tend to dislike having to think about their partner's needs and wants."

The journalist's email address is on the article so . . . we could enlighten him.
But I clicked on https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/co ... real-woman and my Aira's much delighted to be featured!
In the photos on that article DS Kayla features, a Real Doll and a skeleton which is . . . Mechadoll?
Best wishes

In this context, I have to agree somewhat with the shrink.
You can't be in love with an object (you can love something, as in like it very much) but, falling and being in Love is something that occurs and is shared between two human beings. Same for marriage. The man may need help, his feelings are misplaced.
As for the spiritual connection ... not gonna touch that one.

Yes - in that context - spot on. Perhaps Dawkins will be writing "The Doll Delusion" before long . .siliconelover wrote: You can't be in love with an object, falling and being in Love is something that occurs and is shared between two human beings. Same for marriage.

By Ng Jun Sen
Men who turn to life-size silicone dolls for companionship suffer from a mental condition known as agalmatophilia, said two experts.
People with this condition are sexually attracted to human-shaped objects, such as mannequins or statues.
It is similar to how some people get sexual gratification from women's undergarments, said psychiatrist Dr Adrian Wang.
This article came from The New Paper, a TABLOID from the tiny, obscure Republic of Singapore. Just because they have "republic" in their name does not make them conservative. I know of several conservative doll owners on this forum, so let's not put the blame on them, especially when the content came from a sensationalist TABLOID "newspaper." Singapore's version of "The National Enquirer." I really don't think too many people care what they have to say. I know I don't. Still, I might email this dumb bastard just to tell him what I think of him.
