Great post and work. Wish I had the pesos to purchase Rhinoceros software, but budget doesn't allow it right now.

Hi dukesix9, thanks and welcome to TDF!
I've never used them personally, but Autodesk has a suite of free programs called 123D.
123D Design is the modeling app - I've heard that it is basically a stripped down version of Inventor.
Might be worth a look if you're just getting started.

Another free program that I use a lot is Meshmixer which you can also download from that site.
Great for free form sculpting and cleaning up meshes.

I've been reading this thread with interest guys as I'm playing around with the ball joint idea as I am wanting to make my own anime type non sex doll from this cheap 83cm vinyl doll https://instagram.com/p/BPnjoO2gM2b/
I am using the doll as a base then sculpting over it in air drying clay on the head.
I am still trying to decide the best way forward on a lightweight material to cast the past with and how to make ball joint shapes at the end of each limb.
I am not going down the printed route and plan to slush cast.
What final material do I need to make the limbs hard plastic?

You plan to slush cast? That would mean making molds to make new doll parts.
Are you going into production?

Or are you just wanting to convert this one doll into a ball joint doll?
Going downtown. Gonna see my gal. Gonna sing her a song. I'm gonna show her my ding dong! C&C

I build miniature models those can take MONTHS of work to get looking right, trial and error and patience! I think once hands are on materials it will go faster than you think! I'm dissecting some Barbie dolls and monster high dolls now looking at joint designs etc and I have a huge collection of articulated action figures giving me all kinds of ideas!DSCF9118.JPGDSCF9123.JPG

Well, I guess it is in the spirit of Halloween to bring back a discussion that's been dead for six years.
