Size Limits on Photos

Hi!

I am curious as to the size limitations on photos (attachments) that we include in our posts.
Not the links but the actual uploaded photos.
What is the size limit on each photo? (Kilobytes)
What is the cumulative limit on each member?... on each post?
Or are there limits?

Thanks,
GB

I guess I am expected to know this, but I do not.

I always thought that 5 attachments per post is a limit, but I just checked, and this is wrong - after uploading 10 attachments the system still allowed be to add more ...
So to me it seems the forum software is configured to be pretty laid back about how much you upload. Instead it seems folks are just reasonable when it comes to uploading stuff (i.e. do not upload raw megapixel sized images), so TDF does not have to impose hard restrictions when common sense is seemingly working :D

For regular members, the maximum amount of attachments is 5, only TDF Admins can add more, that's why Tchon is able to go beyond the 5 files limit.

The maximum filesize for an attachment is 50MB, so technically, there's a 250MB maximum for a post.

Currently, there is no limit for individual members, but like Tchon said, this is on a commen sense basis.

 I forgot about that  Thanks Alex for clarifying this.
Anyway: no point in being afraid to get "punished" by the software for uploading many pretty doll images, I am sure this will not happen. :)

You can always reply to your own post if you want to add more than five. "Five" is the per post limit, not the thread's.

Thanks guys!
I was concerned that it was a no-no to upload large-sized photos.
I guess I'll never reach the 50MB size!

Well, the 50MB is the technical limit of the image size.

However there is the "Forum ettiquette" (not often respected actually):
http://dollforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=28229
So e.g. if you have very large pictures in the Doll Album, it is recommended that you only embed the "reduced picture" here, which the Doll Album creates automatically. Otherwise the large image makes the rest of the post hard to read for at least some people.

Fortunately for attachments the forum software does that for you :)
So if you upload a large image, it will automatically create a smaller, clickable version. As a result the page still loads quickly, and who want to see the large image can click on the smaller version.

In any case I hope nobody gets shy of posting pictures due to technical issues here. :)

Yeah, those are annoying. Especially since I post from a laptop (we only have a laptop). So I'm a good girl and always use the small images from my album Image

When linking to large images from your doll album, or when uploading/attaching large pictures, just put 'normal_' before the filename and it is resized automatically. And if you want just a very small picture put 'thumb_' in front of the filename.

Thanks Jessy!
That's a great shortcut to know.

You can, but you'll have to decrease the size first, which isn't the hardest thing to do.
The maximum size we have is 1920 pixels.

You could use Picasa, which is a free picture editing program, and resizing pics is easy-peasy, as shown in the video below.

A word of advice is to set your camera to a lower resolution, so you won't need to resize them.
Just set it to 2 megapixels, or if the camera supports it, to HD, and you won't exceed the limit.

That'll be a different answer for everyone, personally, I either use Photoshop, or a tool called DCE Autoenhance.

PS: the current max size on picture attachments is 3600 pixels.
