Erase our ScreeNames from google search

Post by LadyPeridot »

If you look up screen names you can view any past threads you made here back before the site had been switched over to this PHP host. I liked my old screen name before I used it here and it's my face book id even. I think its a big privacy breach and no where does TDF say google can use thread topics or posts in there public database. It's easy to assume what said here stays here because it is a adult forum.

The Google search system indexes pretty much everything on the web, and I don't think there are many forums which mention they are indexed by Google.

Whenever you put something on the web, it's out there, available to the entire world, so you have to think about that, before you do it.
That's why, from the first moment I got on the web, I used my nickname, Alex Knight, and not my real name.

TDF is an adult forum, but it's not a private forum, it's a forum, open to the public, so all information you post here, is also open to the public.

TDF doesn't share anything which you didn't share yourself... so it's not a privacy breach, because you used that username yourself, it's not like we forced you...

Yeah, using the same screen name across different adult forums is a big no-no if any of those names link back to your actual identity.

This is great. Now I can check all my old posts in this and other forums that I forgot about.
If a make a website and don't tell anybody about it, can google still find it?

Is it easy to delete all posts containing a user name as well as delete any thread made when using that user name and delete thread of other people who used a username?

Done multi-page google searches on multiple person's screen names solo or in combination with Trottla or Somethingawful and nothing showed linking back to TDF except for an old French Madame vs French Lolita inflatable post.

Oh, my screen name here only linked back to 1 or 2 TDF posts - unless of course I type in an entire detailed sentence from that post or thread - but then someone would have to be intimately familiar already with that post or thread...
I don't see a problem

Your own posts all have your new username, so the only references on the board to your old username are where other people quoted your post (automatically your username was added, and when you got your new name it wasn't changed in those quotes). Or posts where someone referred to you with your username.
That would be handwork I guess. Someone would need to do a search and change the username. I don't think that if the username is in the header of the quote (which it is with people quoting you) it will show up in a search. So they would be really hard to find.

Anyway: changing or deleting posts that aren't your own can only be done by moderators. Which they only do when rules are broken, which isn't the case here. I probably wouldn't like it if it moderators started editing my old posts for this reason. I would certainly protest if they starting deleting posts and threads for this reason.
You can do a search for your username and kindly ask users to change your name in their post. Most will do it I guess (I would if it is just a few posts).
I did a search on your old name. And I noticed that in some of your own posts you mentioned your name. I would start with changing them. Please do not delete them.

If you google your old name, you don't get hits from the dollforum on the first pages. You get a lot of porn-related hits (but I guess unrelated to you) anyway, so I don't see the problem. Anyway: anything you put on the internet can most likely be found and will be hard to erase.

@LovesBlackWoman: yes, google will find your website.
I have two AI Neo Yuki dolls: Erika and Kim Ishino. They've got their own thread in the 4Woods forum.
Kim has a girlfriend: Erika Juliana Clark, she's got her own thread in the Yourdoll forum.
And then there is Alexandra Seizinger, who also has her own album and thread.

It is described on the phpbb.com site how you can block for bots crawling your forum
as you should of course be able to block for spam bots etc

The search engine bots may take a lot of resources and bandwidth,
so some forum owners are of course also interested in avoiding this.

I'm afraid, this isn't possible, the window to edit posts is only a few days, and deleting posts is only possible if nobody replied to it, and also, within a few days of it's creation.

But if LadyPeridot wants to have her old name removed from threads that still mention it, she can PM me a list of the TDF threads that mention it, and I'll take care of it.
Once the threads are known, changing the posts isn't much work, but I won't go through the trouble of searching the threads, because that does take some work.

We actually want the search bots to sweep through the forum, because that will make sure we end up in the top search results in the search engines, which in it's turn, generates more visitors to TDF, and more visitors, means potentially more sales in the Toystore, which among other things, keeps us alive.

One well intentioned admin did limit the google bots and six months later we were not even showing on the first 10 pages of Google under love doll :(

There is a thread here that speaks about our increased traffic since we restored the bots. We have seen record numbers.

Blocking google bots is a sure way for a website go die a slow death.

Yes and a good way to keep the doll community on the dark roads of the internet. Not really a good thing. I am all for the bots Domo Arigato

Yeah, they have "spiders" that scan the intenet all the time. In fact you'll sometimes see them at the bottom of forum pages where it says how many are viewing the forum, i.e. "Google (bot)". But good luck having your site appear high enough on their list that anyone will find it! Mine was on Google ever since I started it back in 1992, but it never appeared any higher than page 102. I think priority is assingned by the number of visits per day. The more "hits" your pages get, the more likely they will be seen. which isn't really fair, as the chances of it being visited depends largely on how likely it is someone will see it on a search.

As far as my screen name is concerned, so what if someone discovers what some unkown guy named "Szalinski" said on the old forum?

Should you make that formal request to terminate that account, I do not see why that request cannot be fulfilled if one has a legitimate reason and concern about their privacy as the software is functionally able to do so. Secondary option would be to do as AlexKnight has offered to do, which is to edit your personal information out of the posts.

As I have repeatedly mentioned months ago, Google bots provided by the forum software do not have ANY effect on search ranking in their results because Google uses a very complex set of criteria for determining where a site would rank. This criteria and the system is modified so frequently by them that there is no single "key" or simple push of a button to getting the best exposure. So to block or not block would make no difference.

No matter how you see it, our traffic increased when the bots increased.
