Re: Are you an iDollator?
I suppose I think of myself as a doll companion (rather than owner) more than anything else, with elements of Hobbyist and Admirer too. Penny my TB has more than fulfilled what I desired (or expected to be honest) in a doll, i.e. beauty, a feminine presence and an element of companionship. Likewise the TB forum is a very friendly place; which is nice.
Re: Are you an iDollator?
Now I am not saying that anyone who refers to themselves as "Idollators" actually feel this way. Far from it, in fact. However, the utilitzation of the term could be a large part of what's provoking a knee-jerk reaction among the religious communities. Consider this scenario: A doll-basher debates sex dolls with a pastor. The basher begins his or her rant expecting the pastor to immediately agree based purely on a religious argument, only to be surprised when the pastor does not. By and large, the church (protestant at least) have changed their stance on the concept of masturbation, though not pornography. Nobody bats an eye about dildos and vibrators anymore, but it's not something waved around in public, either. From that standpoint, the pastor would inform the basher that what occurs in one's own home is one's own business. God never said "Thou shalt not bang inanimate objects." But then the basher trolls out his or her own clincher, "You do know what they call themselves, right?"
Bang! Instantaneous reaction. Oh, sure, the pastor will say he'll look into it and verify the claim, he may note the alternate spelling, but in spite of himself, his viewpoint will be changed. That's the nature of the church, and indeed society as a whole. Perception is everything. Suddenly, people who own dolls become "Idollators" and the pastor (or any other churchgoer for that matter) feels insulted. Deeply insulted. Whether or not it was intended, that very word speaks volumes in religious terms, and it is going to provoke a negative response.
Some people will say that it doesn't matter what the church thinks, it's outdated, outmoded, etc. We're not looking for the church's approval, but for society in general to treat us like the normal people we are. To that I would respond that the church is an integral component to "society in general," and holds a vast amount of power in the arena of public perception. How many doll bashers do you think would shut up and slink away with their tails between their legs if the religious authorities declared love dolls to be no different than any other sexual mastubation device and thus nobody's business but that of the owner? It'll be hard for anyone to call you a psycho wannabe rapist freak if you got a nod from the pulpit. However, how likely are we ever to get that degree of tacit approval if we label ourselves in such a way that the church will never fully be able to trust?
Other people will say that they don't give a rat's rear end what anybody thinks and they'll call themselves whatever they want. That's their prerogative. If you honestly do not care what other people think about you then you are a free man (or woman) indeed. However, most of us do not appear to be that free as indicated by the number of "how I hide my doll" posts and threads.
Needless to say, I do not perceive myself as an Idollator. I'd call myself a doll admirer, soon to be a doll owner.

Sound advice Darcrivt !!!!!Nobody bats an eye about dildos and vibrators anymore, but it's not something waved around in public
(sorry. 'Just the image that conjured up )
Seriously though, I hope you will be as happy with your doll as I am with my TB. From the point of view of the Church, I think there are far worse things you can do than own a doll to be honest. Do you mind me asking what type you are getting?

"A meeting place for doll owners and admirers."
Maybe it could be changed to a meeting place for doll owners and lovers.

Re: Are you an iDollator?
Yes yes... Most people are outsiders, in one way or the other, because noone is really "normal", whatever that may be. I can tell from my personal life that the worst thing you can ever do for church is to "be who you truely are", because for the way I differ from "average" and for what I truely am, my own fucking Pope calls me - quote - "unworthy life".plushero wrote:From the point of view of the Church, I think there are far worse things you can do than own a doll to be honest.

Re: Are you an iDollator?
I have to say that I prefer the original title "A meeting place for doll owners and admirers."pygmalion2 wrote: Maybe it could be changed to a meeting place for doll owners and lovers.
As I am no native English speaker there might be connotations about the term "admirer" which I don't understand, but personally I like that term. When I signed up on this forum I didn't plan to get dolls for my own, but I have been able to identify with the term "admirer" which made me feel welcome here. The term "lover" would not have been the same inviting, as it would have been a too strong emotional term for me, then.
Now things have changed for me, but this small word helped me a lot to go forward to where I am now, and I am pretty happy about that.
Well, this man just knows to all so well to call people something like that. Maybe he should better take care how some of his honorable folks treat the children they have been trusted with before he says something like that.Vanessa wrote: ... my own fucking Pope calls me - quote - "unworthy life".
In general I feel there are a lot of people around who, even if they cannot really feel how you do feel in your situation, are willing to sympathize and feel for you. Unfortunately they are usually in the "silent majority", and its the assholes which speak their insults loudly and ruin you day by pouring their unqualified and dishonorable insults at you and other "minorities".
Something completely different: on a previous post of mine I thanked Mahtek for pointing out the first occurrence of the term "iDollator" on this forum, while in fact it was Euchre who gave the pointer. No idea why I mixed them both up, but the thanks should have been gone to Euchre in this case, of course.
Sorry Euchre, sorry Mahtek
